The Geoff and Margaret Reading Scheme
Book 1
This is Margaret.
Margaret is a long word.
Margaret is short.
This is Geoff.
Geoff is a tricky word.
Geoff is old.
Old is a VCC word.
Margaret is at home.
Geoff is at home too!
Home has a split digraph.
Or is it magic e?
I have managed to train myself out of using the words 'able' and 'ability' and into using the word 'attainment'. I think this really helps in encouraging a more inclusive attitude. It now really jars for me when I see educators discussing 'ability'.
@jon_severs@heymrshallahan This is spot on - schools need a few people around who know the patch, have seen the fads come and go, can hold a steady course and are there to support younger staff because early teaching days are tough.
Very important to remember that #EYFS is almost entirely a non compulsory phase and children do not have to be there. Centering our practice around the children's happiness and their right to play is an ethical imperative. #values
@AaronTeamEC@Alisonmoore63 A plea: Please don't expect staff to have pre-printed, laminated sheets asking, "Can you make a ...?" and a picture of something you expect them to make. That won't support the EAD educational programme, or the child's creative development. It's ok to let them play and explore!
@smithsmm The most important research is looking at and trying to work out what works in schools - visiting effective schools to see what they do - it is often complex and most so-called sanctified 'research' cannot take account of all the strands and variables so is often reductive.
@Sue_Cowley Ausubel: 'If I had to reduce all of educational psychology to just one principle I would say: The most important single factor influencing learning is what a learner already knows. Ascertain this and teach him (or her) accordingly.'
If true, standardised lesson formats are out.
