It wasn’t until about 5 years ago, when I moved to a solid diocese w/ fantastic priests where I went up and tried it, and was very nicely denied and told to seek a blessing after Mass. He then told me why.

@KennethKessner @MichaelsRosary @CarmeliteNick No, you are wrong here. It is a novelty. It distorts the meaning of the the communion processional and is not in the rubrics of the Mass. The correct time and place to receive a blessing is after Mass. Not to mention, everyone received a blessing at the end of Mass anyways…

@coolmcjazz Again, you don’t know what love is (or bigotry/homophobia) for that matter. To love them is to want what is best for their souls so that they can get to Heaven (e.g. they must repent and CHANGE their ways). What you and Fr. Martin encourage, is the opposite, it’s pure PRIDE.

@VRSNSMV26 @MrsCasey6 @DD73862348 I agree, and I guess I didn’t really notice the word ‘unprepared’ in the prayer above. If one had gone to confession and was then given this “gift” of a sudden death, then they were in fact prepared. So, yes, I do think the prayer you are referring to is a good and holy prayer.
