Lavrov demanded that the United States stop supplying Western weapons to Ukraine

The Russian Foreign Minister made the statement during a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Manila.

Lavrov also accused European countries of continuing a “destabilizing policy” toward Russia and claimed they seek to “inflict a strategic defeat on Russia.”

After the talks, Marco Rubio told reporters about the prospects of a possible peace agreement on Ukraine, but added that “new ideas” are needed for that.

The Danish government has announced plans to ban the wearing of burkas and niqabs in all schools and universities, expanding the country's 2018 nationwide ban on full-face coverings in public spaces.

The proposal is part of Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen's wider crackdown on what the government calls "parallel societies" and "negative social control" in migrant communities that have failed to integrate into Danish society.

Danish authorities define "parallel societies" as neighborhoods where more than half of residents are non-Western migrants, and the government says it wants to strengthen integration and preserve Danish values.

Denmark already has some of Europe's toughest immigration policies, including:
- A nationwide ban on burkas and niqabs in public places, with fines of up to 10,000 Danish kroner (£1,300) for repeat offenders.
- A "ghetto" law allowing authorities to break up neighborhoods with high concentrations of non-Western migrants.
- The "jewelry law," allowing valuables to be confiscated from asylum seekers to help cover accommodation costs.

The new proposal follows another planned measure to ban the Islamic call to prayer, with Social Democrat minister Morten Bodskov saying: "The call to prayer should not be heard over Danish rooftops. It has no place in Denmark."

He added that gradual "Islamization" was taking up too much public space in the country.

The legislation is expected to be presented as part of the government's renewed package of immigration and integration reforms.
