The rate at which some fuel attendants are being dubious in Ibadan is honestly becoming alarming, and I’m getting tired of experiencing this nonsense.

This happened again today at SOA Filling Station, Ashi.

I was buying fuel and paying attention to the meter. The attendant started dispensing, and when it got to about ₦15,000, I noticed that everything suddenly cleared from the meter. Just like that.

I immediately asked him, “What happened? Why can’t I see what you have sold?”

Instead of giving me a straightforward answer, he started coming up with different excuses. First, he said they were using solar. Then he said only one pump was working. The explanation kept changing.

At that point, I asked to see the manager.

That was when his accomplice suddenly came into the matter and started blaming him, saying he should have shown me the meter before cancelling it.

I was just laughing in my mind because… so you people knew exactly what happened? 😂

I insisted that I wanted to see the manager. I told them I was not leaving until the matter was properly addressed, and if necessary, I would have everyone arrested so the situation could be investigated.

Immediately, the whole energy changed.

The attendant started begging me. He eventually asked me to open my tank so he could dispense the remaining litres I was supposed to get.

I left the station frustrated and honestly disappointed.

What makes this even more painful is that this is not my first experience with this kind of thing in Ibadan. This is the FOURTH time it has happened to me.

Four times!

And I keep wondering: how many people are being cheated every single day without even knowing it?

How many people will simply pay, drive away and assume they got exactly what they paid for?

How many people are losing ₦5,000, ₦10,000 or even more through these little manipulations because they don’t notice what is happening on the meter?

Fuel is already ridiculously expensive. People are struggling to survive. The least we should expect when we walk into a filling station is to pay for exactly what we are getting.

I honestly don’t understand why some attendants think they can take advantage of customers simply because they believe the customer isn’t paying attention.

Please, always watch the meter when buying fuel. Don’t just hand over your money and look away.

And to filling station owners and managers: please, do better.

Your attendants are representing your business, and when they cheat customers, it is your reputation that suffers too.

A car belonging to one @RbrnJerry was stolen but later recovered by the police, the owner identified the car after the recovery and was requested to pay a particular sum of money which he paid.

Only at the time which he was supposed to take possession of the car, he was informed that the car had been sold by some police men right in the police station.

This matter deserves the attention it needs, we must not keep quiet at the face of this injustice.

Remember, today may be Mr. Oguji Jeremiah Onyebuchi, tomorrow it may be you or me.

Let's help a brother to get justice, this must not be allowed.
