Over the next few weeks I'm releasing ten Pixel Rugs, one at a time, in support of the Pixel Rugs monograph from @VetroEditions. Today's Rug : https://t.co/Z29fvVFtPf 🔎 https://t.co/bbzNp0C7c7 | 10240×10240 px
The illustrations in A Careful Selection of Whisk Ferns (1837) seem to reduce bonsai to its sparest visual elements. The result is something alien, algal — hardly recognizable as a plant at all... https://t.co/8wGXKY92WP
I think too much time is spent grouping art by media and process and not enough time by aesthetic philosophical perceptual ideas.
for example two friends who's work I love
Christine Heindl - paintings
@travess - pixel rugs
Pixel Rugs from @travess shows how Photoshop can become a tool for algorithmic image‑making: pixels tiled, layered and compressed into vibrant rugs. A proof that digital art can take so many different forms and places. It really is stunning
this man’s dedication to sharing my blocky rgb pngs in the best possible form online is unbelievable. thank you!! also, the way the frame CRAWL on raster looks great
@raster_art@travess made a small change, capping the second zoom factor depending on the viewport of the viewer. so the rugs will never look blurry! once we serve the original resolution, we'll show crisp pixels :)
When it comes to viewing art, we're trying hard to achieve a great balance at @raster_art:
1/ navigating the website has to be super fast
2/ collectors should be able to easily get as close as they want to the artwork
Our improved zoom function does just that:
1/ On initial load, we show you a smaller file, depending on your screen resolution
2/ If you click once, we load in a higher resolution file and zoom in 3x
3/ If you click once more, we increase the zoom factor (e.g. to 10x) depending on the available file size
We're looking into improving this further by serving the original media (right now, you're zooming in on our compressed AVIFs)
Anyway, here's an example: 01_10_26_Pixel_Rug_01 by @travess 👇 (going from 1800x1800 to 7200x7200; you can follow along in the bottom right corner)
