In keeping with my campaign promise, my Administration is announcing a plan to give working and middle class families breathing room as they prepare to resume federal student loan payments in January 2023.
I'll have more details this afternoon.
I’ll be delivering remarks on my Administration's student loan debt relief plan at 2:15 PM ET.
In the meantime, go to https://t.co/80wXPTae6V for more information.
The student debt crisis is unprecedented & demands an unprecedented response.
With the stroke of a pen, @POTUS can #CancelStudentDebt & transform the lives of millions.
He must use that authority.
When they say that the 4th of July is about American freedom, remember this: the freedom they’re referring to is for white people.
This land is stolen land and Black people still aren’t free.
Proud #Juneteenth is now a federal holiday.
As we reflect on the significance of what this day symbolizes, let’s keep fighting to address the lasting consequences of slavery.
Next step: reparations.
For the first time ever, #Juneteenth is a federal holiday. It’s an important step. But we can’t stop here. We have to root out systemic racism in every aspect of our economy and society—including health care, housing, education, banking, policing, and voting.
Jeff Bezos is the second-richest person in the world. His net worth is nearly $195 billion dollars. But his salary is about the same as the average public school teacher in Massachusetts: $80,000. Taxing income alone won’t make him pay his fair share. It’s time for a #WealthTax.
Canceling $50,000 of student loan debt—and ensuring free technical schools and free two- and four-year public college—will be transformational for working families. It will make the promise of opportunity a whole lot more real.
The Senate should pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act to hold law enforcement everywhere to the highest standards of accountability and help build trust between law enforcement and our communities.
George Floyd's family and community deserved for his killer to be held accountable.
Today, they got that accountability.
Always and forever, Black lives matter.
This case should be the litmus for eliminating qualified immunity. Maybe if officers had to take a second & think, because their own assets would be at stake, they wouldn’t “accidentally” shoot people.
Or at very minimum eliminate QI and compel LE to carry their own insurance?
For years, we defunded schools.
We defunded health care.
We defunded programs that keep us safe, healthy & housed.
A lot of people who feign outrage when we talk about divesting from systems that perpetuate violence, trauma & death were quiet about the above policy violence.
But this issue is bigger than one greedy corporation. More than 40 million borrowers are trapped in a rigged game. We need a new approach. Canceling $50K of student loan debt would free millions of people from the traps laid by Navient and other servicers.
