FFmpeg is moving to Rust 🦀
Our use of C and Assembly in FFmpeg has been an unacceptable violation of safety.
FFmpeg will be running 10x slower - but we're doing it for your safety.
All your videos will appear green - safety first, working software later.
I sure would love to be reading some text on a web and then accidentally moving a 3D viewport in the background causing all the text to unpredictably jumble and causing me to loose track of what I was reading
I know you're all getting mighty tired of seeing typography on your timeline today!
But here's a pretext.js demo that (hopefully) isn't a crime against justification and indentation.
When "you" die, "you" also can't be sad about not seeing sunsets.
When "you" die "you" don't magically go on to experience nothingness for eternity.
You don't need an existential fear of death to not kill yourself.
@APP6514@IrisShaders@redaction great! would be nice to also see them take a crack at drastically increasing render distance. i wouldnt be surprised if 4x render distances were possible with just a bit of renderer refactoring.
@IrisShaders@redaction i have never used Java, i dont claim to know. i can agree that minecraft is in part slow because it is written in Java, its also in part slow because of the history of how the game was first made and how it has been maintained. It is still true that it wastes too much CPU power.
@IrisShaders@redaction thats true, it is also true that minecraft is very poorly optimized. its obviously very CPU bound. and if i had to guess theres probably close to 0 data oriented optimizations in minecraft's world generation and draw call system. im guessing they dont do a lot of SOA, SIMD, etc.
