The Novel Extreme Weather Risk Insurance System for Kenya (NEWRISK) Project has officially commenced study implementation activities in Turkana County. The study will explore stakeholders’ priorities for addressing extreme weather, assess health facilities’ vulnerability to climate-related hazards, and examine how the effects of extreme weather on health can be effectively communicated to communities.
To support these activities, the Programme has partnered with the Department of Health and Sanitation, @TurkanaCountyKE, and @KenyaRedCross. The inception activities included a three-day training for research assistants at the KRCS Lodwar offices, followed by a consultative meeting with the County Director of Medical Services and the County Director of Climate Change.
Funded by @NIHRresearch, the NEWRISK Project is a collaboration between the Programme, @UniofOxford, @keprecon, and county governments.

Naivasha Safari Centre is a great addition to our travel infrastructure and serves as an important stopover for all travellers. As stakeholders in the tourism industry, we truly appreciate such investments, as decent rest stops—with clean washrooms and eateries—have long been lacking along most of our highways.
The design of the facilities is particularly unique; for example, the men’s washrooms allow individuals to select whichever urinal suits them, a small yet thoughtful touch that enhances the overall user experience.
It is essential that we see more of these kinds of developments along highways across Kenya. They not only improve the comfort of travel but also strengthen the country’s image as a tourism destination. To the team behind this initiative, well done; kudos for setting a commendable standard.
Tourism numbers are steadily on the rise—there is no doubt about it—while domestic tourism remains vibrant and resilient. Indeed such a spirit of optimism continues to drive our industry forward.
As always, I choose to remain an optimist. Lets keep it @magicalkenya 💯 ✅️
Really great full for the warm reception and the engaging discussion with the Count Department of Health colleagues in @TurkanaCountyKE . Looking forward to true partnership in our NEWRISK and AfRICARE projects.
