Chuck Todd's better looking, smarter, factually correct, "evil" (i.e., good) twin. My pronouns are "Super Straight/Pure Blood," and I identify as a billionaire.
"I can't believe Lobo's cameo didn't save Supergirl at the box office!" said no one ever who has even a modicum of common sense. Lobo is a D-list character, even among comic book readers. It's honestly embarrassing that anybody pretended to be hyped for his appearance or casting.
It's odd how the Gunn-Gooners and Real DC Fans™ act as if The Flash is somehow indicative of Snyder's DC films rather than Gunn's. The Flash has Gunn's (not to mention Geoff Johns's) stink all over it. Everything wrong with that film can be found in Superman '25 and Supergirl.
The DCU is offensively awful, but to be fair to @JamesGunn, even a talented director would be hard-pressed to create a successful cinematic superhero universe in this climate. The MCU ran the genre into the ground, and audiences have had enough. Time to put the concept to bed.
@MugenLord Exactly. Gunn botched this as badly as possible right out of the gates. This is not hard: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman standalone films. Little to no cameos. Possibly a Flash and Green Lantern film, then Justice League. Easy money. Front-loading killed the DCU on the launchpad.
We all know why James Gunn gave a mediocre actress with practically no writing creds to her name 3 prominent screenplays at DC Studios, but we're all too well-mannered to write or say it. Hopefully, his soon-to-be ex-wife includes all the juicy details in her inevitable tell-all.
I implore @warnerbros not to wait for @ParamountPics' takeover to dump the DCU. Not only is this debacle a money pit for the studio, it's a liability for the DC IP writ large. For the next generations, the DCU is turning these characters and their universe into a gross parody.
During the height of its popularity, the MCU made blockbusters out of 2 terrible Thor sequels, 2 mediocre Ant-Man films, and a criminally boring Captain Marvel movie. Supergirl tanked not only because it's a bad film, but also because Superman '25 generated zero hype for the DCU.
Hot take: Sony's Spider-Man villains universe was better than the DCU. If nothing else, at least they managed to produce a half-decent Venom film. I'd also place Godzilla, the Dark Universe, and even Valiant's low-effort Bloodshot movie over James Gunn's garbage take on the DCU.
While David Corenswet seems like a nice enough guy (although he is a Hollywood celebrity, so high probability he's a PDF file), he's a terrible Superman. Dude lacks any kind of screen presence whatsoever, and he honestly looks kind of goofy at times. He's basically Temu Superman.
Having seen neither Superman '25 nor Supergirl, honestly, from the promotions and trailers alone, Supergirl looks better. I've seen a fair bit of Superman on basic cable, and it was an absolute mess. If Supergirl is legitimately worse, I don't know how the filmmakers managed it.
@Nerdrotics Good review, but I disagree about Corenswet. He seems like a nice guy, but he completely lacks the screen presence for Superman. I'm sure some will chalk that up to the suit and Gunn's terrible cinematography, but I think he just lacks aura. He comes across as Temu Superman.
@ReviewFischer@EverythingDCU_ Exactly. You just left out, "With a terrible lead-in film that completely failed to hype up anybody outside of shills for this crappy cinematic universe."
@ReviewFischer Supergirl's going to be a massive bomb. My Superman box office projections were pretty gracious, but I've always expected Supergirl would do badly. With Superman underperforming now, though, it's already over. Terrible decision to follow up Superman with this derivative also-ran.
There's a false narrative across social media that the only people who dislike the DCU are "Snyder Bros." It never occurs to these cynics that some of us want more from a DC Cinematic Universe than MCU-lite. Championing slop because it has your "team's" logo on it is crazy to me.
