Men, I tell you what..folks!

When I thought I was done with my day, after meeting a man for lunch, I was just getting started.
I wound up at a hotel to go, rest as I prepare for the week, a man on another table overheard me on a call and something had been mentioned about jobs.

We had been left two of us when suddenly he shouted across the room with the urgency of an emergency:
"I need a job. I heard you talking about jobs."

We started talking.
He told me about his three degrees and a diploma.
As we got acquainted, I mentioned that I am a Kiswahili trainer and a men's mental health advocate before I could finish.
He quickly interrupted:
"Let me stop you there. I think I have a mental health challenge."
That changed everything. I was alert. At the mention, I closed my laptop and moved to his table.

That's when he broke into it, told me bout losing opportunities after NGO funding cuts. That's the very time he also lost his wife. He told to me about he had spent the last two-three years surviving on odd hustles that barely bring in what used to be a month's allowance. About being a single father with three children in school, some of them candidates. And he said all the symptoms and the last thing..that you all can ably guess.
Then he told me he had previously met two other of his friends going thru same or even worse.

From 5:56pm to 8:40pm, we did nothing but talk. I listened for nearly an hour first before I could say anything.
Then we shared counsel, coffee, a snack, prayer, some transport.
He left feeling better, hopeful, clarity but also most importantly + a commitment:
"Let's keep this conversation going."

More so, when many people consistently complain about your posts, don’t assume you are wiser than the hundreds criticizing you. Instead, take it as an opportunity to sit down, reflect, and honestly assess whether you are heading in the right direction.
