A great piece on Henry Baker + his decades-long quest to document Black inventors. Stay tuned for more from team @USPTO as we continue to herald this incredible individual + his work, known as "Baker's list."
Among the inventors on Baker's list? An ancestor of @DepSecGraves.
❗️ USPTO is naming our Public Search Facility after Henry Baker. Our historian uncovered Baker's list of Black inventors from the early 20th century, which he compiled as a weapon in the fight against racism. Amazing that @DepSecGraves' ancestors is among those on the list.
One of the names on his list was James Wormley, an entrepreneur in the D.C. area and one of America’s first Black patent-holders. I’m a proud descendent of James Wormley, so I know first-hand how important it is to support minority entrepreneurs, innovators, and businesses.
Fascinating to learn how one man's handwritten list gave Black inventors the credit they deserved. Loved hearing @USPTO historian Rebekah Oakes tell the story (FULL INTERVIEW) https://t.co/GrkTpA6tap
if you do anything today, please read this original, incredible story from our historian team about one man’s quest for racial equity via tireless documentation of Black inventors and innovations. So proud of this team and so proud of this piece 👏 #BHM
Henry Baker and George Washington Murray were two men connected by a city, a dedication to public service and civil rights, and a list of African American patent holders. Read our #JourneysOfInnovation to learn more: https://t.co/qsQ2RqJeGo
