Finally the city said they could give me the requested documents but they’d be so heavily redacted it would be meaningless. They didn’t even give me that. The events contained in the record all happened in public BTW. Such bullshit.
Public records are a joke. I tried for like 6 months, won two appeals and the city of Boston just refused. I was told a public employee union objected (Hi ladies!) and then when I asked the city for their communications with that union, they said it didn’t exist.
Today, the House passed a bill that applies a public records request process to the Legislature and establishes a framework for legislative audits. This bill will ensure greater transparency, while preserving the separation of powers principle established in the Constitution.
