@DanteTheDon Hearing Biggie rap Nas verses goes to show the differences in their styles. You get a poetic sense of Nas’ lyrics which their outlines differences in songwriting and approach to rapping. Biggie probably wouldn’t write like this but it sounds spectacular!
@NickKehoe13 Popular Canadian artists during my childhood are not heavily recognized by Americans as in Canada say, Billy Talent. Differences in sales in the countries are drastic. Today everybody knows Drake, The Weeknd, etc. CanCon seem more appropriate for lesser know artists. #MUS2011W21
@dshortall11 Radio stations are limiting now with improved technology as well. Anybody can search for Canadian artists of old or new that garner to a genre of the individuals taste so I agree that the enforcement of CanCon is unnecessary in todays standards. #MUS2011W21
The need the enforce quotas like CanCon today is not necessary in todays industry. Technology of today has greatly enhanced the marketing of artists compared to waiting for radio stations to play the artists. EVERY song is accessible in a matter of seconds. #MUS2011W21
@KaceyHutton4 The accessibility of covering a song is not as difficult as it may seem. It can be as simple as going to a karaoke bar where groups of people are dancing, singing to song that song by any individual regardless of talent. That is the pure element of music. #MUS2011W21
@hjmmadden Yes! People enjoy festivals and live music. The message I take from Wald's argument is that bands like the Beatles got their start by playing covers at live gigs to further their success. It is disappointing to not see them perform live after they stopped touring. #MUS2011W21
I find Wald's assessment of today's pop audience to be somewhat accurate. Records from a particular artist, for some, seems better than hearing unfamiliar 'covers' of the song. In saying, the act of going out listen to 'cover' bands in bars, clubs is alive and well. #MUS2011W21
@DanielWNeill1 @phoebe_bridgers@KateBushMusic@soundgarden Since the pandemic I’ve gained a lot of interest with The Police especially “Zenyatta Monday’s” being my ‘pandemic’ album and also the Doors. This week has been mixed with a deeper dive into Steve Vai and Golden era hip hop artists after viewing the unit in the course!
#MUS2011W21 The "schlock rock" of the 50's to me seems to define the racial indifference of the genres artists that succeeded from covering the songs by African-American artists to appeal to a greater audience.
@AndrewTuck11#MUS2011W21 Ray Charles pioneered the future of many genres in addition to country. That's what made him truly special. He had a great impact across the entire music industry no matter what genre they associate with the most.
@RileyHogan4 Without this style of singing, music of today would not be as expressive. He but the swagger and the shape into the music with his voice that keeps the listener engaged throughout the music. #MUS2011W21
Ray Charles used "breaking voice " style probably from the influences of pure expression gained from gospel and maybe even from influences of country music such as "yodelers." This signifies an evolution of blues with more emotional expression we know now as soul. #MUS2011W21
u can’t sell houses u don’t own
u can’t sell cars u don’t own
but
u *can* sell stock u don’t own!?
this is bs – shorting is a scam
legal only for vestigial reasons
@dshortall11#MUS2001W21 Although nothing will beat listening to your favorite artists live, it may seem unbearable nowadays if we relied on the next purchase of a record or until the next artist rolls into town to listen to music. It was a task to enjoy music. Now it is an instant pleasure.
@MaggieB07464233 Also to mention the sense of unity. Imagine be looked down upon because you affiliate with a particular genre of music because you are not "upper-middle class." I'm glad we all can enjoy music with one another which lay the foundations and attributes you've stated.
#MUS2011W21 (2/2) Music is everywhere! The access to music in this era is instant and is seen in every aspect of everyday life. Streaming services for example give access to millions of songs which creates the opportunity of searching for something new much more efficiently.
#MUS2011W21 (1/2) With regards to personal identity and developing music technologies, there is an ever-increasing acceptance that music is for everybody and not defined based on social implications. Everyone has the right to freely represent the way music makes them feel.
