The ultimate goal is to develop depth and breadth, so that you have a mental model for how a subject works.
The ability to filter information.
But the humility to keep you always learning, testing, and tweaking your mental model.
It's balancing expertise with exploration.
Decades of research shows that people (and I'd argue entire societies) thrive when three attributes are abundant:
1. Autonomy
2. Mastery
3. Belonging

Remember, the news doesn't deliver facts; they deliver perspective -- news as interpreted by a particular reader archetype.
We used to see those news archetypes as aspirational.
Now, we don't.

There's a difference between what the models said and "what the models said" as interpreted by the media, which often emphasized worst-case scenarios rather than the broader range of possibilities they articulated, some of which were conditional on there being no distancing, etc.
