@April_Frampton The issue with playing only good music is that that's subjective. What some might consider good others may not, and vice versa. The quota allows a diverse range of music while still ensuring Canadian artists receive a certain level of airtime #MUS2011
@JohnPurchase10 I agree with you John. It would be interesting to see how things might change were there no mandatory quota on Canadian content. I think Canadian artists would be even more disadvantaged when it comes to getting recognized #mus2011
I think the quota is necessary and important in promoting Canadian culture and aiding smaller canadian artists with an opportunity to be heard. While most music listeners stream specific artists they like, it's always refreshing to discover new artists on the radio #MUS2011
@kirsten_gillam Exactly. If I had the money and time to see all my favorite artists I would in a heartbeat, but as that's just unrealistic, I'll continue to enjoy listening to their albums at home #MUS2011
@JohnPurchase10 I agree John. I think its inaccurate and unfair to make generalizations about any group of music listeners, no matter the genre. With music as popular as it is today, there are bound to be different personal preferences amongst music fans #MUS2011
While there are plenty of pop fans that would prefer to listen to their favorite albums at home, I disagree with Wald in that I dont think you can accurately generalize all pop listeners in that manner. Live performances are still hugely popular #MUS2011
@mralph87 You make a good point, so long as the original artist is okay with the cover and is given the proper credit and recognition, I dont think there is anything wrong with someone trying to put their own twist on a song #Mus2011
@kaitlin_mugford I agree with your last statement. I think the main issue with this music is the loss of emotion like you said. They changed the songs and therefore made them less authentic while losing the original meaning behind the music #Mus2011
I think the authors considered this to be "schlock" as it lacked originality and was designed to appeal to the masses. These artists images and sound were planned around what would be popular, not because of what musical talent they had #MUS2011
@velvetporter Torally agree. One of my favorite things about listening to music is being able to feel the passion and emotion of a song, and Charles' use of a breaking voice is a great way to do that as an artist #MUS2011
Ray Charles use of a breaking voice added an extra element of emotion and passion to his music. The ability to convey emotion and make your listeners feel something is one thing that separates great music from good music #MUS2011
@lfahey709 Like you said, spotify and other music streaming services are a wonderful legal option of listening to all our favorite artists. I definitely prefer paying a small monthly fee than downloading all my music illegally #MUS2011
@mralph87 One of my favorite features of spotify is being able to share your playlist with friends or searching playlists that are composed of songs and artists that are similar to the song you searched #MUS2011
@JohnPurchase10 Great point john! Apple music and spotify provide platforms for new artists to reach people all over the world and become discovered more easily. #MUS2011
Personally my musical tastes have expanded greatly with the use of spotify and YouTube, as their suggestion features make it so easy to discover new music #MUS2011
New technology such as spotify and other music streaming services allow us to have a near endless library of music to listen to with a few presses of a button and it comes at a relatively cheap price #MUS2011
@kristywalll Very true. Youths are constantly surrounded by media portraying these unrealistic/unhealthy lifestyles and it can be all too easy for them to get caught up pursuing that sort of lifestyle #MUS2011
@gillie345 I totally agree Gillian. This is something that can have a huge impact on younger kids and teenagers who may feel that without the newest iPhone or coolest shoes they wonβt fit in. It is nearly impossible to consume media without some product being advertised in some way #MUS2011
The media industry has created a false need of the βpartyβ lifestyle, filled with drugs, sex, and money. This can be seen in music videos, especially for hip hop songs, where drug abuse and violence are often depicted without showing the consequences of that lifestyle #MUS2011
