@HellenisticPod The Roman amphitheatre beneath the Guildhall museum is an interesting site inside London. Also the ruins of a section of the Roman fort along Noble St near the Museum of London are of particular interest and the London Mithraeum (book ahead).
Angela Rayner has said she will publically release her last 15 years of tax records if Rishi Sunak, Jeremy Hunt and James Daly release theirs.
RT if you want to see all their tax returns, and all the tax they didn't pay.
@RestIsPolitics@RoryStewartUK@campbellclaret I often think that Rory was one of the greatest PMs we never had and that the 2019 leadership election a turning point in modern British politics. That said, who are your favourite ‘also rans’ and how would they have impacted British politics had they been elected?
Leaving the ECHR would mean UK citizens have no one to appeal to if their Government mistreated them. Whether left or right, there's no better protection against overbearing state than a right to remedy they can't control.
Share and speak up before its too late. #ECHRProtected
Is it just me or does anyone else think that Monterey Jack sounds like a gunslinger in a spaghetti western rather than a boring cheese used by restaurants to make their nachos sound exotic.
@RpsAgainstTrump She appears to have an absolutely massive sourdough in the kitchen. I thought that was a sign of the woke liberal elite. Next thing you’ll tell me there’s an avocado in the fridge and some lime and cilantro to garnish.
@RestIsPolitics@RoryStewartUK@campbellclaret It was lovely listening to your leading interview with Michael Ignatieff. As a Canadian living in the UK I’ve always been struck by the failure of the liberal movement in this country given its success in Canada. Why do you think it failed here and succeeded there?
@RestIsPolitics@RoryStewartUK@campbellclaret what do you make of Keir Starmer’s apparent backtracking on his pledge to reinstate DFID that he made on the podcast? As Rory is an outspoken supporter of the department what are your thoughts on this proposed U-turn?
Fascinating discovery! For all those that say there is nothing left to find this should be a lesson. We have only scratched the surface of what’s to discover. And with each discovery we learn more and more about our collective past. https://t.co/HSDKGiSphl
@RestIsPolitics@campbellclaret@RoryStewartUK A question for both of you. Classical Greece is remembered for its art, architecture and philosophy, what do you think people 2000 years from now will think of when they remember Britain of the 21st century?
@digging_history The eastern part of the empire persisted until the fall of Constantinople in 1453. While they called themselves Roman throughout the empire had long since abandoned much of what we see as trappings of the Roman Empire.
@digging_history The western Roman Empire ceased to be a political unit with the death of Julius Nepos in AD 480 yet parts of it were reconstituted with Justinian’s conquests following the Vandalic and Gothic wars. In a sense Rome never fell but was transformed from a secular to religious entity.
