Hydration, Exercise, and Thermoregulation (HEAT) Lab at University at Buffalo - PI Riana Pryor
Worker and warfighter health and safety in extreme environments
New article alert! Congrats to Liz Lavoie, a CRESE doctoral student, for determining that even a 3 mile ruck march reduces leg strength, but not power, especially in females.

Congratulations to our stellar group of graduating seniors - Cassandra Vaccaro, Jacob Liberman, and Donny Holzmacher. You will be missed in the HEAT Lab!
A wonderful job by the #UBuffalo HEAT Lab's JianBo Qiao, Wesley Bolin, and Cassandra Vaccaro who presented their projects at the American Physiology Summit. It's such a great meeting for students to share their science! #APS2026
While we enjoy the warmer weather this spring, remember that heat waves can impact us even before the heat of the summer. In this Prevention article @UBuffalo Dr Riana Pryor talks about staying well hydrated as the weather warms up. #HeatSafety@ubsphhp@Buffalo_AT@SUNYENS
Our abstracts are submitted and the hotels are booked. The HEAT Lab is excited to share our work at #APS2026 in Minneapolis this spring. This will be a great opportunity for our students to experience their first APS meeting

Thank you to Dr Hostler for hosting the CRESE research team for a fall backyard BBQ at the farm. Looking forward to seeing our projects through and the new upcoming studies from this excellent research team. #research#collaboration
Congratulation to Dr Dave Hostler on being promoted to UB Distinguished Professor. He is the #CRESE Director and leads the charge in securing Navy funding for our center.
Starting this semester out right and enjoying this beautiful weather with a cookout at the Pryors. Since we study different environments we ought to enjoy it too! Welcome to our new #HEATLab trainees!
Seeing our alumni succeed is such a rewarding part of the job. Drs. Pryor and Vandermark ran into Lydia while camping in Ithaca. We are excited to hear how her first year goes! @Buffalo_AT#TransitionToPractice#alumni
State Parks' pools, lakes and beaches are ideal places to beat the heat! Many of our swimming facilities are extending their hours on Tuesday and Wednesday this week to make it easier for your to cool off -- explore our list. https://t.co/TygbWIoRZ0
Thank you to all the #NATA2025 attendees who stayed to listen to the last talk of the last session - our very own Dr. Pryor! We shared results from Alex and Hannahβs project on the impact of weight cutting on cognition #Hydrate#SportSafety#HEATLab#UBSPHHP#UBuffalo
Last week, Dr. Pryor @UB_HEAT_Lab taught on environmental emergencies. Students were able to practice cold water immersion, polar pod and TACO methods for cooling. Perfect timing with the heat wave heading towards Buffalo! #UBuffalo#UBSPHHP#HeatLab
Hot and humid conditions will continue through the day Tuesday. A front that will bring some relief by mid week, may produce some showers and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon into the early evening as it sags southward into our area.
This week Dr. Pryor taught our @Buffalo_AT students about heat-related illnesses and treating heat stroke using cold water immersion. If you suspect someone has heat stroke, a cold bath or shower can be life-saving. Stay safe during this heat wave! #HEATLab#UBSPHHP#UBuffalo
As this heat wave rolls in, avoid outdoor activity during the middle of the day, take lots of water/rest breaks, and check on your neighbors and family. Libraries and splash pads are great places to cool down! Stay safe out there. #heatwave#HEATLab#climateresilience
If you are in any of these affected areas, make sure you have a way to stay cool and be sure to check in on your neighbors and loved ones, especially the elderly. https://t.co/HkK15smeWv
