@drkeithsiau Severe anaemia alone is a risk factor for TACO where patients are transfused and giving multiple units will increase this risk. All plans to transfuse non acute bleeding should include a TACA risk assessment which should be documented in the notes. 2/2
@drkeithsiau Yep.
Also… Important to remember that chronic iron deficient patients don’t need transfusing multiple units. Max. 1 and IV Iron (unless contraindicated), speak to Haem if tempted to give a 2nd unit, but 1 unit will increase oxygen carrying capacity by nearly 50% here.

Many thanks to all of the staff who have made time to attend training in the new blood fridges over the last few weeks at Queen Elizabeth Hospital @uhbtrust. We went live with the system yesterday meaning there is now better traceability and access to blood components 🥳
Yesterday was a very proud day for us @UHB_Transfusion after too many months of blood (actual usually in unit form), sweat and tears (usually mine ) we went live with bloodtrack at QE... 6 haemobank 80s, 1 haemobank 20 and 6 kiosks on other storage devices all working!
