Me too, re Lt4. I know what it didn't do for me, taking it for 20+ yrs, and more so what it did do! Migraine, Fibro, CF...etc. LT3 has been miraculous. Placebo? Been on T3 mono 14 years, don't think so! As for TSH being the sole diagnostic tool....?

Patients are doing it for themselves. Those that can are having to self source and self medicate. And they DO get well. But it is a hard slog to find the right meds/ regime/dosage for them as individuals without the backing and care of the health services. Evicted from NHS.

But patient experience is crucial & is not considered seriously. Guidance is negatively written. Patients still being harmed.
Other conditions have unlicensed meds offered.
T3 IS licensed yet still refused

Even for those drs who insist on using TSH for dx thyroid dysfunction, they can at least help by ensuring the test is carried out early morning to be most helpful. But testing all 3 HPT levels would be more relevant as you know

They risk poor QoL. Inability to work or function on a normal level. Meanwhile Drs say 'it is all psychosomatic' Yet we get well on T3, despite them?

Worse still, some patients who have been doing well on #T3, #liothyronine are having it withdrawn or reduced. How does this make any sense? These patients risk poor health outcomes by lack of, or insufficient treatment.

@Andrea25633402 @MaryS58459511 @Moje_dzieje @MarcusDGon Exactly this is the point. Measuring TSH only will in many cases not suffice (except in situations with a low a-priori probability). Sensible testing approaches include TSH, FT4 and FT3, and in difficult cases even more biomarkers (e.g. SHBG, coeruloplasmin, copper and AP).

'The measurement of (TSH) is available for dogs. High TSH results are suggestive of hypothyroidism but normal or low TSH results do not necessarily rule it out. It's recommended that this test be used together with the other thyroid tests for diagnosis.' For dogs not for us! 🤔
