In the late 1970s and early 1980s, passport production dropped to around 4.9 million. Why? Economic turmoil. The era of high inflation, recessions and tighter budgets, often referred to as “The Great Inflation,” meant fewer Americans could afford international travel. Plus, longer passport validity reduced the need for frequent renewals.

The U.S. District Court Western District of New York recently made its opinions publicly available on GPO’s GovInfo, with more than 9,800 opinions already added to the collection.
On behalf of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, GPO provides access to opinions from 167 federal appellate, bankruptcy, district, and national courts. The United States Courts Opinions collection reached 38.2 million retrievals in May 2026 alone.
