Today, NGOs briefed @USAmbUN on the dire humanitarian situation inside Syria, particularly for women and children.
3.1 million people in Northern Syria are food insecure today, and if Bab al-Hawa is not renewed, they will be able to feed less than ten percent of this population.
In addition:
-1 million children are not in school.
-81 percent of girls know they may have to marry at a young age to survive.
-4 in 5 boys are working in the informal labor market.
-Women are enduring sexual assault and violence to feed their families.

Last year, the @UN Security Council unanimously voted to allow humanitarian aid to continue to flow into Syria. And just now, @USAmbUN met with aid workers who have seen the impact of that vote up close. Their message: the crossing is vital and access must be renewed & expanded.
Tomorrow is my last day at @USUN. It’s been an extraordinary experience, and today, there’s no place I’d rather be than here on the Turkey-Syria border with @USAmbUN, making sure lifesaving humanitarian aid can reach millions of Syrians suffering from a decade of conflict.

The US is providing more than $800 million in new humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people to continue helping those impacted by the war, @USAmbUN announced in Brussels today. She told CNN that US assistance to Syrians will not be affected by what the US is doing in Ukraine.
