Interactive plots of several UTSC atmospheric datasets are now posted to the website:

You can use the tools to explore air quality & carbon cycle-related measurements.

Feedback & thoughts are welcome.
This is a test of the approach.
Other plot types and how to update them frequently are being developed.)

New air quality sensor deployed at the UTSC Atmospheric Observatory today! Thanks to Eric and Mark.
This adds measurements of surface NOx, O3, PM, and CO.

This is a tremendously useful interactive resource for education about the atmosphere. I’ve used it many times and am thankful that it continues to be available (and free!).
If you haven’t seen it, try it out!
Spray painting for science.
The aluminum plates under instruments distribute weight evenly on the roof surface. But they are highly reflective. For one instrument, we needed a less reflective matte finish. Grey spray paint has done the job.

25 years ago, something interesting happened in Canadian atmospheric science:
a 🇨🇦 stratospheric balloon went on a 9000 km unexpected journey, crossing into several countries' airspaces.
This is the story of the MANTRA 1998 campaign:

There are ground-based Pandora instruments all around the world.
Together the network enables global and regional air pollution studies. As well as supports measurements on other platforms, e.g., satellite measurements.
Why did a NASA aircraft measuring air pollutants spiral near UofT Scarborough today? It’s a small part of a large campaign.
Our atmospheric observatory hosts a Pandora, which measures air quality gases for comparison. There’s one downtown but that airspace is more restricted.
