The University of Texas High-Resolution X-ray Computed Tomography Facility - providing high-resolution CT data for earth, bio, and engineering applications.
🚨Introducing our first two invited speakers for our 2024 meeting! Dr Imran Rahman @VirtualPalaeo, Principal Researcher from @NHM_London, and Dr Jessie Maisano, Research Scientist from @UTexasCT. Looking forward to both of your talks! 🚨 https://t.co/3JMDZbHXft
Thousands of 3D digital scans of vertebrate specimens are now available for anyone to explore, thanks to the oVert project! Our @UTexasCT lab is one of the 18 participating institutions and is contributing ~3,000 X-ray CT scans, including fossil scans.

Adding another beautiful parrotfish to the dataset! This is Chlorurus strongylocephalus another "Steephead parrotfish". These guys inhabit the Indian Ocean and use their huge beaks to excavate coral skeletons. Shoutout UT Austin for the scans! #backdatwrasseup
UTCT will host a short course on the fundamentals of acquisition, visualization, and analysis of high-resolution X-ray CT (HRXCT) data for biological and paleontological specimens April 17-19, 2024 in Austin, TX.

NEW EPISODE ALERT!!!
Ep. #76 "Dino Egg X-Ray" is out! This could be our most exciting mystery yet. Join Dr. Jessie Maisano of @UTexasCT and see what we find inside this egg - if its really an egg at all!

What can scientists expect to find in the #OSIRISREx asteroid sample that arrived on Earth this week? The Jackson School's @Romydsch & collaborators provide predictions based on studying the asteroid's geology remotely 🛰️ https://t.co/Q18V9alHfq
Amazing day with paleontologist Jessie Maisano at @txgeosciences filming this episode. We are doing a full CT scan to find out what - if anything- is inside this dinosaur egg. Find the full episode 11/15 on my channel here:

Had a blast hosting both Geology and RTX short courses here @txgeosciences It's always great to teach others the ins and outs of µCT analysis. We're looking forward to our Biology and Paleontology focused course next week!
Behold the crowning achievement of the #backdatwrasseup scanning initiative! This is the humphead parrotfish, the largest parrotfish in the world! This one was 71 cm long but they get even bigger. We had to fly all the way to Japan to get it, and it was too large to ship whole
What a week! Last week UTCT successfully hosted the 4th North American @ToScAConference symposium, with more than 110 delegates, as well as the first @NoCTURNetwork All-Network In-person meeting, with more than 60 attendees, right here in the Jackson School of Geosciences.
#NoCTURN2023 was an amazing time. Such great ideas, such great conversation. And even though we didn’t fix all the problems yet…the good news is we have 2 more years of bringing everyone together!
Keep up with the monthly meetings, and see you in 2024!
Our Keynote Speaker Anton du Plessis giving a great talk on bottlenecks in tomography and open science. No talk is complete without pretty pictures!

I'm in Texas for the ToScA North America and NoCTURN meetings this week. Great talks on all things #tomography over the last two days, tomorrow we talk open science and data sharing for CT imaging. Great job by organizers. #CTismorethanNDT#ToscaNA@UTexasCT@ToScAConference
