Over two million people forced into a walled and gated open air camp of 140 square miles for 17 years, are now being relentlessly bombed for two weeks straight by the most advanced nuclear army with the most sophisticated weaponry that include white phosphorus after cutting off water, food, medical supplies, electricity, and communications, destroying hospitals, schools, residential buildings, churches and mosques, roads and all infrastructure, killing hundreds of babies, mothers, disabled and elderly.

Are you watching the way in which Gaza is being viscerated, skinned alive, gutted and utterly crushed like an empty can of coca cola by Israeli artillery, fighter jets, bombers and state of the art long range precision bombs?

The whole thing is beginning to look like what was done to the German city of Dresden by the Allies in WW11 when the whole city was turned into nothing but a sea of rubble and what was done to the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the Americans when a nuclear weapon was dropped on both in the same war.

Is it not utterly frightful? Is it not like hell on earth? Is it not the worst type of nightmare that anyone can possibly experience?

Think of the screams of horror, the tears, the blood, the flying body parts, the pain, the begging, the pleading, the praying, the shouting, the mourning, the pain, the despair, the stench of death, the smell of rotting and burning flesh, the darkness, the fear, the disease, the flies, vultures and rats feeding on dead bodies, the horror, the sheer helplessnes of the people living there and the fact that they have no power to make the rain of fire and death stop.

And all this even before the Israeli ground forces and infantry goes in for what will undoubtedly be a merciless, brutal, and unrelenting and savage ground assault and land invasion in which they will literally go street to street and house to house killing every living thing in their path.

That is the FACE and REALITY of war and no-one, no matter what side of the divide you are on or who you are supporting in this terrible conflict, should ever joke with it or take it lightly.

I personally find the whole thing heartbreaking and traumatising because we are watching human beings, including women and children, being cleaved and carved to pieces and their homes, offices, places of worship, towns, streets and loved ones blown apart from the sky.

It is enough to bring tears to anyone's eyes given the damage that is being done and the innocent lives that are being lost.

Only a monster would relish such a sight, no matter how justified you may think it is.

Now ponder on the following.

Had it not been for the prescence of mind and sense of restraint of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria would have undoubtedly buckled under the immense pressure of the western powers, closed her ears and hardened her heart to the concerns and pleas of her own people and proceeded to lead a newly and hastily formed military coalition described as the 'ECOWAS Intervention Force' into a meaningless and unecessary yet savage and unrelenting war against Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali which would have totally consumed the whole of West Africa.

Many towns and communities in our sub-region would be suffering what the innocent men, women and children of Israel suffered last Saturday at the hands of Hamas and what Gaza and its people are suffering today at the hands of the Isrealis.

Hundreds of thousands of our people would have been slaughtered and millions would have been displaced and turned into vagrants, vagabonds, homeless wanderers and refugees.

Worse of all is the fact that the rest of the world would not have given a damn.

They would have watched the horror unfold on their television screens with a wry smile, sold their sophisticated weapons to both sides and actually enjoyed watching us butcher one another until we are all either utterly destroyed or dead.

Think about that, count your blessings and thank God for His tender mercies.

May Nigeria NEVER see or experience a full scale modern war.
