I agree that access to an open and free internet is a right. Democracies depend on the free flow of news, information, facts and on debate. We base rational decisions on the overall collection of information gathered that is available to us. #NetNeutrality https://t.co/k0ZdV2maeY
#NetNeutrality means consumers — not big corporations— choose what websites and applications we see online. In the 21st century, access to a free and open internet isn’t a just privilege, it’s a right. I’m fighting to #SaveTheInternet to protect that right.
@Connor_vt Well said! I think balance is also important in everything! If we can learn how to better use and balance social media in our lives to better ourselves, others and learn how to control it we can reap its benefits, instead of letting it control us! #comm3120
@Gaby78301098 Great point! I think social media gives us the ability to portray how we want others to perceive us and what we want to represent. It's, in a sense, our highlight reel, our best moments and best angles, in addition to further editing and Photoshop. #comm3120
I found myself agreeing with the lens of a realist. We are united through good intentions and recognize the community and benefits of social media. Yet, we also recognize the threats, dangers and negative consequences associated with it as well. #comm3120
@jennabigler@MisterCundy I agree with Cody! I think social media can affect everyone differently but I saw how it affected my friends and how dependent they became on it for validation. There are other ways I feel I can stay connected and still be present. #comm3120
@katieskinner93@MisterCundy I think that is a great point. It's interesting how often individuals will participate online as opposed to within a classroom setting. Usually we tend to see more individuals speak up when it's online because of the ability to hide behind a screen. #comm3120
@MisterCundy I agree! I also thought it was interesting how it mentioned the possibility of a robot in the future comforting and listening to us when humans fail to do so. The thought that we may need robots to emphathize with us is a frightening thought. #comm3120
@Gaby78301098 I completely agree! I see the impact of this through news that is shared online. Journalists specifically may find themselves having to anaylze and sift through much information in order to get to stories that are accurate and worth their time. #comm3120
@Gaby78301098 I like how you mentioned the ability social media has to give individual's a voice. It's important to be aware of fake news, yet as we overcome limitations we may discover new empowering platforms and a variety of new sources in which to speak up. #comm3120
@xvancejohnsonx I also found myself agreeing with the lens of a realist when it comes to social media. While social media can be very powerful and influential there are also dangerous, negative consequences to be aware of as well. #comm3120
