This week, volunteer training sessions are underway across five districts of Adjumani, Isingiro, Kikuube, Madi-Okollo, and Yumbe.
These sessions bring together a team of assessors in preparation for the 2026 International Common Assessment Pilot of Numeracy, Reading, and Social-Emotional Skills in Refugee Contexts, which will take place this weekend. The pilot aims to rigorously test the functionality of the integrated literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional skills tools, while evaluating the feasibility, quality, and consistency of field procedures ahead of a broader scale-up. #FoundationalLearning #Evidence4Impact #SDG4 #LifeSkillsandValues
On this #WorldTeachersDay, @UwezoUganda celebrates teachers who turn each school day into opportunities for children to understand, question and grow.
We recognise the support and conditions teachers need to help every child learn and thrive.
#HappyTeachersDay to all
teachers and educators shaping learning every day.
Honoured to join @uniteuganda24 International Teacher Education Conference-ITEC held in Kampala on 1-2 Oct 2026. Our ED @MNakabug joined @Educ_SportsUg officials & @MaKCEES colleagues on a panel responding to a keynote address delivered by @NPA_UG ED @JosephMuvawala on aligning Teacher Education Reform with Uganda's National Development Plan IV and Vision 2040. Our message: Reforms in Teacher Education should be matched with reforms in learning. As our ED observed: ‘’If, five years from now, we have more trained teachers, more CPD hours and a fully established UNITE, but children still cannot read or lack key life skills and values, we will have reformed the teaching profession without reforming learning…’
Setting the stage for the 2026 International Common Assessment Pilot of Numeracy, Reading, and Social-Emotional Skills in Refugee Contexts in five districts: Isingiro, Kikuube, Yumbe, Adjumani, and Madi-Okollo.
Trainers conducted field practice to ensure the team is ready to train volunteers at the district level next week, ahead of the actual pilot assessment. #FoundationalLearning #Evidence4Impact #SDG4
#Day 3️⃣ of the ICAN-ICAR-ICASES pilot training, saw the Trainers and PMTs test their knowledge practically in the field by assessing children at household-level ahead of the enumerator training and assessment that kick off next week in 5⃣ host and refugee context settings in Uganda🇺🇬.

#Day 2 of the ICAN–ICAR–ICASES ToT continues today where teams are continuing to deepen hands-on mastery of @palnetworkHQ’s integrated tools.
The focus today will be navigating the application, diving into the child assessment booklets, a review of assessment protocols, ethics and safeguarding. Tomorrow will also see the teams get a practical field experience in communities-to assess children and reflect on the outcomes.

Today we kicked off a three-day Training of Trainers (ToT) on the ICAN–ICAR–ICASES pilot-an integrated assessment developed by @palnetworkHQ to measure #children’s reading, numeracy and social-emotional skills across host and refugee settings.
The training will prepare the team to support testing of how well these integrated tools work across different ages, languages and contexts, while also strengthening field procedures before wider scale-up.
This team, together with PMTs, will also roll out a cascade training of enumerators who will generate evidence on children’s foundational learning and social-emotional skills across five districts, helping identify learning gaps and strengthen future assessments.
🧵🪡Hon. J.C. Muyingo, Acting Minister of Education and Sports, opened #ITEC2026. In his address, he said Uganda's future depends above all on the quality of its teachers, who interact with children every day.

As we continue to advance our planning for the Uwezo Supplementary School-Based Assessment for Children with Disabilities (CWD), we have successfully piloted the assessment tools. This pilot took place at the Uganda School for the Deaf and the Kiteezi Centre for Disabled School, with invaluable support from selected teachers for Special Needs Education (SNE) at the Uganda School for the Deaf and Kyambogo University. #LearningAssessment #Lifeskills @palnetworkHQ@UwezoTanzania@usawaagenda@alive_programme@ReliAfrica@MNakabug
We are pleased to share that preparations are underway for the Uwezo Supplementary School-Based Assessment for Children with Disabilities (CWD).
We are currently conducting a pilot phase to refine our approach for this foundational learning assessment, which covers numeracy, reading, and problem-solving. The main assessment is scheduled for the week of 19th–23rd October 2026 across the districts of Yumbe, Ntungamo, Mukono, and Luuka.
This assessment will target children with disabilities attending special primary schools, specialised units within regular primary schools, and designated inclusive primary schools.#LearningOutcomes #Lifeskills @palnetworkHQ@UwezoTanzania@UsawaAgenda@alive_programme@ReliAfrica@MNakabug
We are heartened by these OECD findings, which reveal how extra-curricular activities are connected to higher outcomes of #SES among 10-and 15-year-olds. This casts fresh light on the importance we must attach to co-curricular activities-especially in Sub-Saharan contexts, where their promise is both urgent and profound.
@OECDEduSkills@OECD_Stat
Relatively few students engage in extra-curricular activities, according to the OECD Survey on Social and Emotional Skills.
But engagement in these activities relates to higher levels of all social and emotional skills of 10 and 15-year-olds.

Today, we wrap up an intensive 5-day Africa Centre for Social Emotional Learning (AxSEL) Foundations Course in Kampala! Covering four modules, this has anchored participants to frame Social Emotional Learning as part of everyday teaching, assessment and institutional practice as they set on their journey of becoming AxSEL Certified SEL Practitioners (ACSP).
Together, we are contributing to building a shared understanding of Social Emotional Learning (SEL), strengthening pedagogical practices, and preparing to integrate these vital skills into the regional education contexts. #AxSEL #SEL #EducationTransformation

We now know that strong #FoundationalLearning should begin early. But, how much priority should Uganda🇺🇬 give to quality #ECD and pre-primary learning in building the literacy, numeracy, #LifeSkillsAndValues children need later in life?
