X open sourced its algorithm yesterday and most of the coverage stopped at the repo is public and said the same thing about how the multipliers work, so i spent the last day or so reading the actual ranking code (with my lovely Hermes agent) because I'm trying to grow a small account the honest way.
Here's what the code says, not what the posts say.
1. No likes = invisible
A post only starts reaching people who don't follow you after it gets its first like. no likes, strangers never see it. X also gives small accounts a small boost in the first 24 hours, (<1000 followers). engagement is called favourites in the algo.
2. Every post lives 48 hours
Your post basically stops reaching new people after 48 hours, so nothing blows up a week later, if you want to be seen, post something fresh every day. (its more like a day job, get you shit done every day)
3. The algorithm rewards conversation, a lot honestly.
Replies count 5x more than retweets.
A reply from someone you follow back is worth about 40 likes.
Saving your post (copy link) counts the most equivalent to 40 likes (oof), so creating engaging and shareable content gives the most benefits.
4. Threads hold nothing to the algo
When you post a thread, only the first tweet actually reaches new people. Everything after tweet 1 is treated as a reply by the algo, and replies only show up for people who already follow you. So better to create a single long post, than mincing in small threads.
5. One report costs you equivalent of 468 likes
The algorithm gives every action on your post a score. One report on your post wipes out the score of roughly 468 likes.
One mute kills 118 likes worth.
One not interested kills 86 likes.
So ragebait and clickbait aren't a growth hack anymore, reporting can hurt way more than gaining few extra likes.
6. Its anti AI slop algo
X has a spam detector built specifically for accounts that mass-post AI-generated content. Get flagged and your posts stop reaching non-followers for 30 days. I would definitely start reporting more knowing this is the case.
So the crux remains - 1-2 originals a day, one niche, get that first like fast, reply to people with something real.
that's it. no pods, no bait, no volume.

Would love to #connect with builders and grow together. @X
@i_mika_el@X Vibe coding is one of the most exciting ways forward man not just actual building thing but learning so much more along the way. The biggest takeaway that I got from vibe coding was, its easier to built, its hard to market and its harder to distribute.
