This Wednesday, June 10th we will join the call to #ShutDownSTEM! We urge all scientists and STEM workers to stop business as usual for a day to focus on actionable plans that work towards ending anti-Black racism.

Hey AoT fans, we miss seeing you @sudwerkbrew! Since we don’t know when our next in person Davis Astronomy on Tap will be, we thought we’d do a Davis AoT team Q&A.
So... what are your most burning questions about space?
I had plans to have a big celebration with @UcdAstro for Hubble’s 30th birthday, but instead I’ll have to settle for baking cookies. Happy Bday Hubble! I am honored to be part of your history.
#CosmicDwarfs19@j_hirtenstein from @UcdAstro telling us about her work on observationally testing effects of stellar feedback and it's relation to inducing DM core formation in dwarf galaxies at z~1
#CosmicDwarfs19: Alyson Brooks opens our meeting by highlighting the nice work of Samantha Benincasa (now @UcdAstro) about the weak dependence of galaxy properties on star-formation model, because star formation + feedback is self-regulating
Just got a new data set of J0924 with four different bands (three from HST, one from Keck AO). It looks amazing. Can't wait to know what's the value of H0 from this lens! More work need to be done. Stay tuned...
great quick read from @nytimes on the space travel achievements of diverse people in the USSR during the space race. After Yuri followed the first woman, asian man, and black man into space, years before US did so

If that wasn't enough Prof Michael Gregg will show us how breaking apart the light stars emit can tell us a lot about them with a *live demo*. You will also get super neat refraction glasses for the demo!
Please join @AoTDavis at @sudwerkbrew on Thursday the 18th for another edition of Astronomy on Tap. We will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing, along with the ongoing legacy of space exploration(!)
Excited that Dr. Sarah Loebman @sloebman, Hubble Fellow with us @UcdAstro, will start as Assistant Professor @ucmerced in fall 2020! Excited particularly because Sarah will start a new astrophysics program within the UC Merced physics department. Congratulations Sarah!!!
Geoff lead a recent paper combining high resolution AO imaging with @NASAHubble data to measure H0, confirming he tension with Planck after doing a blinded analysis. Congrats Geoff!
We present a 3.4% measurement of H_0, with three time-delay strong lenses with adaptive-optics imaging. We obtain H0=76.8+/-2.6 kms^-1 Mpc^-1. https://t.co/e2w0sVYpMH
Does complex life only emerge in a universe with three dimensions? Maybe not, physicist James Scargill argues in new paper. Scargill is a postdoctoral researcher in the Center for Quantum Mathematics and Physics (QMAP) at UC Davis. https://t.co/xPGdHpbsx5
After graduation, she will join USTC to conduct her postdoctoral research, to continue her studies on the effect of environments on the galaxy evolution.
Lu has become involved with research on radio galaxy and their environmental effect at z~1 in ORELSE survey under the direction of Professor Lori Lubin, pictured with Lu below.
Next Thursday, June 20, at @AoTDavis you can also hear our local @NASAJPL Solar System Ambassador, David Takemto-Weerts tell us about Apollo 12, the second mission to the Moon, as we near the 50th anniversary of the first Moon landing
Our department is hosting our monthly Astronomy on Tap (@AoTDavis). We will be regaled by the @sumnerd, a @ucdavis professor who worked on the @MarsCuriosity (!!!!!) Come to @sudwerkbrew next Thursday to have your mind blown at 6:00 pm
