Across Britain, neighbors are cutting small holes in the bottoms of their fences on purpose, and you should too.
The holes are for hedgehogs. A hedgehog can cover a mile or more in a single night hunting for food and mates, and a solid fence turns every backyard into a dead end. So conservation groups made it a movement: a gap about five inches square, cut at ground level, linking yard to yard into what they call a hedgehog highway.
The US doesn't have wild hedgehogs, but we have all the animals that hit the same wall. Toads, salamanders, box turtles, chipmunks, young rabbits: each one small enough to be stopped cold by a privacy fence, and each one needing more ground than a single lot to live a normal life. To a box turtle, a solid fence can be the edge of the reachable world.
The fix is the one the Brits landed on. A palm-sized gap at the bottom, down where the small things travel. Your fence still does its job, the neighborhood stops being a series of wildlife prisons, and your yard stitches itself back into the larger map.
🇬🇧 @grok What happens if you someone has a stab wound below the collarbone so that blood slowly gets into the lung and the police pulls his hands behind his back, twisting his shoulders and the stab wound?
A stab wound below the collarbone that allows slow bleeding into the lung/pleural space (hemothorax or hemopneumothorax) already compromises breathing as blood compresses the lung.
Pulling the arms behind the back and twisting the shoulders stretches the upper chest wall, pectoral muscles and wound track. This can:
- Stress or reopen the injury, increasing internal bleeding
- Worsen lung collapse and pain, making breathing harder
- Cause struggling that raises oxygen demand while capacity drops
In trauma care, minimize chest movement; priority is airway/breathing support and rapid hospital transfer for chest drainage. Restraint may be needed for safety but adds risk here.
Not medical advice — general trauma principles. Video shows active ground restraint.

15 men jailed for raping a girl as young as 14 in Bradford.
Jameel Ahmed committed 4 rapes, yet could leave prison in a little over 5 years.
Sentences for rape gang perpetrators are routinely pathetically short.
Britain is broken.
🚨 CONVICTED | Jawad Nadeem, 21, from #slough, Berkshire: left one 'security' dog in the boot of a car on the hottest day of the year and kept another in a tiny cage in direct sunlight.
Nadeem pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering and failing to meet the duty of care under the Animal Welfare Act 2006.
The offence took place on Wordsworth Road in Slough on June 19, 2025.
Police were called at 12.50pm and found a German Shepherd locked inside the boot of a car.
Nadeem, the registered owner of the vehicle, admitted to police that he had left the dog in the boot for at least three hours.
The unnamed dog was found distressed, dehydrated, and overheating and was taken to a veterinary clinic for emergency treatment.
Vets also discovered he had an untreated degenerative condition in his rear leg that required surgery.
The following day, neighbours reported that Nadeem had placed another German Shepherd in a wire crate in direct sunlight in a rear garden.
By the time police and council officers arrived, both Nadeem and the dog had left the property.
He was later traced to Royal Holloway, University of London, where he was arrested.
During police questioning, Nadeem gave a no-comment interview and refused to say where he had left the second dog.
Ian Blake who led the investigation for Slough Borough Council said: "It was also believed that there were more than just these two dogs involved in this as Jawad Nadeem appeared to be operating as a so-called Security Dog Handler regularly transporting dogs in this activity."
Following a council prosecution, Nadeem initially pleaded not guilty but later changed his plea to guilty.
During sentencing, Nadeem claimed he needed a dog for work purposes.
The only dog located, the German Shepherd found in the car, made a full recovery, received necessary surgery, and has since been rehomed as a family pet.
Sentencing | 200 hours of unpaid work; ordered to pay prosecution costs of £5,102 and a £114 victim surcharge. He is banned from owning, keeping, or being involved with animals for 10 years.

Hannah Foster was abducted after a night out in Portswood, Southampton, by a Sikh man named Maninder Pal Singh Kohli not far from her family home.
The 17-year old's body was found two days after her disappearance. She had been beaten, raped and strangled to death, before her body was dumped in bushes just outside of Southampton.
It was later found that she had called 999 whilst in the back of her killer's van, but the operator had failed to realise that Hannah was in trouble.
On the recording, she could be heard giving a false name, that of her sister, to a man with an asian accent who asked her questions. Towards the end of the call her voice could be heard saying: "Huh ... listen ... anything." before the line went dead. Her mother, Hilary, later said that she had never heard Hannah sound so scared.
Kohli immigrated to Britain in 1993. He fled the country following the murder, returning to India and adopting a new identity. He was not immediately extradited due to the Indian police not prioritising the case. Only after Hannah's parents travelled to the area he was suspected to be in to find him themselves did that change.
He was arrested, and three years after the murder was extradited back to the UK where he was sentenced to life imprisonment. Kohli originally stated the reason for murdering Hannah was that "she refused not to report the crime", therefore he was "forced" to kill her. He later tried to claim that criminals had forced him to rape and kill her, much to the disbelief of the court.
He is expected to be released in 2030.
Perhaps Bridget Phillipson would care to comment on this allegation that her mother stole £728K of taxpayers money?
Also the allegation that Sue Sim was forced out for investigating it?
