For 15 years local authorities have faced brutal austerity cuts, with frontline workers and services facing the brunt 📣
Council workers Kathy David, Stephanie, Sharon have seen it first hand.
The impact of the cuts can be seen across our communities, when streets cannot be cleaned on time, roads are not gritted, streetlights are dimmed, youth centres and libraries close and housing repairs are delayed.
At the same time, council workers have faced years of real term pay cuts, reductions in terms and conditions, fewer resources and job losses. This has to stop.
Austerity is a political choice and we can see that it has failed. We call on the Labour government to do the right thing and fund local government fairly!

Today we launch our campaign on the No U-Turn on the Freedom Pass, we are aware after the recent review that most councils have committed to no change on the FP, but we are also aware that after the May elections this may change. So we are calling for No U-Turn commitment.
Our amazing Unite Young Members delegation at TUC Young Workers Conference! Our motion on the severe housing crisis affecting young workers was also chosen to go to @The_TUC later this year ✊🏼✊🏼

Stanhope? No hope! 👎
Today, @unitetheunion and @Unite_Community activists protested outside Stanhope Plc’s offices.
🏗️ They’re a key partner of Wolffkran, whose tower crane operators haven’t had a pay rise in 3 years.
Strike action continues tomorrow.
We in @Unite_Community often campaign on issues outside the workplace; we’ve fought cuts to the Winter Fuel Allowance and Disabled People’s social security, and are always keen to organise around the needs of students like housing and tuition fees

🚨Brum MP @AyoubKhanMP once again raises the year-long dispute in Parliament. @Keir_Starmer responds: "We're doing everything we can" to resolve the bin dispute.
Really?...everything? How about a return to negotiations @10DowningStreet@BrumLabour?
We were in parliament today to ask MPs to back @switherdenMP’s amendment to the Railways Bill, to enable your community to campaign to reopen local stations cuts in the 1960s.
Here is why his amendment is so important. #RailwaysBill
Day 2 of #heartunions week and we've been out on the streets of Leeds with @Unite_Community spreading the word that unions are for everyone ❤️ And that when we stand together, we stand stronger💪
Nigel Farage isn't the answer! If @UKLabour start to tackle the issues communities are facing, such as spiralling food prices, energy costs, low wages, housing and the #costoflivingcrisis then Farage would be in the rear view mirror. @bbclaurak@unitetheunion#LauraKuenssberg
“You should be pushing for negotiations and ending the bin strike!”
This butcher in Bordesley Green sums up how the Birmingham public feel about @BrumLabour walking away from bin strike negotiations seven months ago.

😰 Service users abandoned & workers under stress
Unite reps from around the UK tell how the funding squeeze is devastating local services. It doesn't have to be like this.
An influential parliamentary committee agrees with many of Unite's proposals to fix local government funding.

“We need an NHS Reinstatement Bill to eliminate the role of the private sector and rebuild our NHS for patients, not profit”. @DrJohnPuntis#HouseOfCommonsEvent
An absolutely incredible report by @BhamCityCouncil director of finance Carol Culley reveals the ludicrous spending of tax payers money in protracting the bin strikes in 2025.
🔹£4.2 million in lost income from bulky waste, commercial waste and paper.
🔹£4.4 million in lost income from green waste
🔹£10.2 million in ‘street scene saving non-delivery’.
🔹£14.6 million has been spent in direct costs, including “street cleansing, mobile household waste and recycling centres, security costs and additional support”.
🔹£12.6 million in the first 11 months of 2025 on agency and contract staff.
And the £1200 a day chief commissioner Tony McArdle has the audacity to preach about "best value"!
Unbelievable...
