Were up to 25 total tornadoes on the year across the state. Only 2024 had more!

NWS offices of BGM and BUF are still finding more tornadoes from the other day of this once in 20-30 year storm event in WNY/CNY. Not only a bonafide tornado outbreak but literally it was a plains quality level outbreak of storms. Again, the equivalent for that in ENY and Capital Region was the 1998 Outbreak and the event that produced the highly destructive 1998 EF3 Mechanicville tornado.

As of today, NY is experiencing its third most active tornado season on record, tied with 1998 and 2011 at 23 tors. Only 1992 (25) and 2024 (33) have had more. Something tells me that 2026 is not done yet 👀

Meet tornado 4 and 5 confirmed. This time, Seneca County.

NWS Buffalo Storm survey found damage consistent with an EF-1 tornado just to the east of Alexander in Genesee County. Damage included flattening of a corn field and multiple trees snapped. Further tree damage occurred along the southern path of the tornado.
