“The HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Act seeks to balance public health protection with the rights of people living with HIV. It offers important safeguards against discrimination and supports access to HIV services, but some provisions on mandatory testing, disclosure, and criminalization remain controversial because they can affect privacy, autonomy, and the willingness of people to seek testing and treatment. For many Ugandans living with HIV, the law is therefore both a source of legal protection and a subject of ongoing human rights debate”
Justine Balya - Human rights / HIV & SRHR expert with an overview of Selected Legislation and Judgements and their Implications for SRHR and HIV Programming.

Our Legal Officer, Jasper Twesige, participated in the stakeholder engagement organized by CEHURD on how legislation and judicial decisions shape Uganda’s HIV response and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).
The discussions highlighted the importance of rights-based laws and policies in improving access to healthcare, strengthening public health outcomes, and protecting vulnerable populations.
We remain committed to advancing evidence-informed legal frameworks that promote health justice, equity, and meaningful collaboration among key stakeholders.

❝Uganda’s self-care journey demonstrates what can be achieved when political commitment, strategic planning, and strong partnerships come together. From HIV self-testing and self-injection technologies to policies grounded in dignity, access, and choice, we are empowering people to take charge of their health while building more resilient and responsive health systems.❞

Today, our team was at the London College of St. Lawrence, Maya, continuing the Toba Bully campaign and reinforcing the importance of creating safe, inclusive spaces where young people can learn, connect, and grow. This work goes beyond addressing bullying; it’s about shaping mindsets, building empathy, and encouraging students to choose kindness in how they show up for one another. When young people feel seen, heard, and valued, real change begins.
I’m always encouraged by the way our peer educators lead these engagements using games, peer sessions, and edutainment to spark honest and meaningful conversations. Young people learn best from each other, in spaces where they can ask questions freely and engage without fear. From discussions about puberty to making informed life choices, we are creating an environment where curiosity is embraced, and guidance is rooted in respect and truth.
At @reachahand, this is why we do what we do. Every young person deserves access to the right information, the confidence to make healthy decisions, and the support to navigate their journey. Toba Bully is more than a campaign; it is a movement to raise a generation that is informed, compassionate, and intentional about standing up for what is right.

At @reachahand, we have always believed that to connect with young people truly, we must meet them where they are.
We brought our signature edutainment approach to life at @ScorisU, proving that when you blend education with music and art, you break down the barriers of stigma and silence. We moved away from traditional lecturing and instead fostered a space where students felt safe to discuss puberty, mental health, menstrual health and the importance of emotional intelligence.
Through our #TobaBully campaign, we focused heavily on the power of empathy and peer support. We challenged students to look beyond themselves and understand the impact of intimidation, replacing it with a culture of kindness and non-judgmental listening.
This school outreach is a powerful reminder that informed youth are empowered youth. We aren't just delivering information; we are building a movement where empathy is the standard and every young person feels seen and heard. I am incredibly proud of the energy at Scoris and remain committed to ensuring that every school we visit becomes a haven for growth, learning, and mutual respect.

Malaria remains a major health challenge in Uganda, especially for children and pregnant women, affecting lives, livelihoods, and the health system. It contributes to about 13% of deaths among children under five in the country.
Prevention and timely treatment save lives, but access to insecticide-treated nets, testing, and effective treatment remains uneven, particularly in vulnerable and hard-to-reach communities.
Sustained action is needed to protect those most at risk, strengthen health systems, and keep progress on track toward ending malaria.
