In 1987, Dr. Zbigniew Religa achieved a significant milestone in Polish medical history by successfully completing the country's first-ever heart transplant. The surgery, which lasted a staggering 23 hours, was considered incredibly challenging at the time. In a remarkable photograph capturing the moment, Dr. Religa can be seen closely monitoring the patient's vital signs. Interestingly, the picture also shows Dr. Religa's exhausted assistant, who took a moment to rest on the floor in the corner due to the physically demanding nature of the procedure.

Despite facing medical odds and working within a healthcare system considered one of the worst in Europe at the time, Dr. Religa and his team forged ahead with the groundbreaking surgery. The complexity of the procedure is evident from the multitude of tubes and the clutter surrounding the patient.

The patient in the photograph is Tadeusz Zytkiewicz, who lived for another three decades before passing away in 2017. It is worth noting that Dr. Religa, a heavy smoker, tragically succumbed to lung cancer in 2009.

This iconic photograph, capturing a pivotal moment in medical history, has been recognized by National Geographic as one of the 100 most important pictures ever taken. Below the image, Zytkiewicz is seen proudly holding a printed copy of the photograph depicting himself on the operating table.

The achievement of the first heart transplant in Poland marked a truly remarkable moment for humanity, despite the fact that the initial heart transplant was performed in South Africa by Christian Barnard in 1967.

Politics in Pakistan is not for the educated and learned, its not for the middle class, politics is not for women, politics is not for youth, its not for taxpayers, politics is not for academics, politics is not for doctors, not for professors… - this is what we used to listen to, a few decades ago.

My uncle wanted to join Bhutto at the time of his youth but my Grandfather asked him to study and earn a respectable living (looking at the realities and perception of politics at that time).

That concept changed over the years and many understood how politics can change lives and whether you like it or not - no one has captured mind share of youth and middle class better than one man in the last two decades.

Woman like @ShireenMazari1 is not someone who would get easily intimidated - her decision speaks volumes of the pressures that this brave mother daughter duo have gone through in the last two weeks.

On Saturday 20th May 2023, in the 2nd hearing (after 2 years) on my complaint in Isb Bar Council I had withdrawn my complaint from the Isb Bar Council against @ImaanZHazir . When I filed that complaint in 2021 it was based solely on professional grounds - nothing personal. (I will write another tweet/post to further explain my decision of withdrawing my complaint).

Women like Shireen Mazari are needed in National politics. Are we sure we want to eliminate Shireens? Do you know how many women come out and vote on the day of polls in Pakistan?

اسلام آباد ہائیکورٹ کی جانب سے ڈاکٹر شیریں مزاری اور سینیٹر فلک ناز چترالی کو ضمانت دیے جانے کے باوجود انہیں اڈیالہ جیل کے اندر سے اغواء کیا گیا اور تھانہ سیکرٹریٹ منتقل کیا گیا جہاں ڈاکٹر شیریں مزاری کے چلّانے کی آوازیں سنائی دیں۔

ہماری خواتین کارکنان سے کئے جانے والے وحشیانہ سلوک، جس کے ویڈیو شواہد بھی مسلسل سامنے آرہے ہیں نہایت قابلِ نفرت و مذمت ہے۔

ہماری بہت سی خواتین اراکینِ قومی اسمبلی، کارکنان اور حمایتیوں کو نہایت غیرانسانی حالات میں ملک بھر کی جیلوں میں ٹھونسا جارہا جہاں وہ پولیس کی زیادتیوں کی زد میں ہیں۔

اس فسطائی حکومت کی جانب سے ان خواتین شہریوں کا اغواء اور ان سے کیا جانے والا بہیمانہ سلوک انسانی حقوق کی سنگین پامالی ہی نہیں بلکہ ہمارے کلچر اور اسلامی تعلیمات کے بھی خلاف ہے۔

ان تمام خواتین کو فوری طور پر رہا کیا جائے۔ انہیں پیہم قید میں رکھنا نِری بےحسّی ہے۔ میں یہ سارا معاملہ انسانی حقوق کی عالمی تنظیموں کے سامنے بھی رکھ رہا ہوں۔
