Thanks to Reuters for this piece highlighting how the IFRC network is supporting communities at the centre of the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where building trust is essential.
Supported by the @IFRC, Red Cross volunteers are going door to door to share trusted health information, counter misinformation, and encourage early care-seeking, critical work that helps reduce the spread of Ebola. https://t.co/CdyI4wOgIW
Congratulations to @IFRC President @KateForbes_IFRC on being named to the 2026 @TIME 100 Philanthropy list, recognizing the world's most influential leaders shaping the future of philanthropy and giving.
This well-deserved recognition reflects her unwavering commitment to humanitarian action, strengthening community resilience, and advancing global solidarity.
This is also a recognition of the extraordinary work of the entire IFRC network - our volunteers, National Societies and staff whose dedication and humanity make this impact possible every day in communities around the world.

ELIMINATE RACISM:
On the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, we are reminded that racism is not a relic of the past — it is a daily reality for millions. It shapes who is safe, who is heard, who gets access to opportunity, and who is left behind.
Racism and discrimination have no place in our societies — nor in our organisations. Every person deserves dignity, safety, and equal opportunity.
As a global humanitarian network, we see the human cost of discrimination in every crisis: people denied assistance because of who they are; communities stigmatized in moments when they most need solidarity; migrants and minorities facing barriers to safety and dignity.
Racism weakens our social fabric, fuels violence, and undermines trust.
Today, and every day, we recommit to building a world where every person is treated with respect and fairness — regardless of race, ethnicity, origin, or status. A world where dignity is not negotiable. A world where compassion is not conditional.
Let us confront discrimination wherever it appears — in our institutions, our systems, and within ourselves. Let us choose courage over comfort, justice over indifference, and humanity over hate.
Our IFRC network stands united: racism has no place in our societies, and no place in our humanitarian work.

Today, we have launched the World Disasters Report 2026. Producing a report on harmful information is not easy. It means addressing a complex and highly sensitive topic.
So why do it now? Because every day, harmful information is blocking humanitarian action, eroding trust, and putting lives directly at risk. This report makes one thing clear: harmful information is no longer just a communications challenge. It is a humanitarian risk as real as a collapsed bridge or a guarded checkpoint. In some cases, it is a hazard in its own right.
Our @IFRC network listens to communities, works with verified data, and grounds its analysis in real-world experience. We are “local, everywhere” and today, that must include the digital space as much as the physical one.
We can either stand by as harmful information erodes the trust it has taken a century to build. Or we can choose to make credible, trusted information our most powerful tool.
Harmful information is poison, but being the source of trusted, actionable information - that is power. This report demonstrates that, and has some solid ideas to harness that power. 👉https://t.co/NVYJEXCIoE #WDR2026
The @IFRC is following closely and is deeply concerned about the recent escalation of hostilities in the Middle East.
All National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in the region are on high alert for any possible responses needed.
The IFRC calls for the preservation of humanitarian space so humanitarian and medical personnel can operate safely and reach people in need.

Today, I unveiled the @IFRC Global Plan 2026, our roadmap for the months ahead.
Humanitarian needs are rising. Challenges are growing. And now, funding is shrinking. At a time when many organizations are forced to leave communities just when they are needed most, the IFRC network stays – local, everywhere. 👉https://t.co/ARTzn1Pydv
It is with deep regret that we announce the closing of our operation supporting people on the move on the Central Mediterranean, delivered in partnership with @SOSMedIntl aboard the Ocean Viking search and rescue vessel, due to financial constraints.
This mission has been a lifeline for thousands, rescuing people from the Mediterranean’s perilous waters and providing them with safety, dignity, and care. In the past four years, the @IFRC network teams onboard Ocean Viking helped save more than 8,600 people, including 2,200 children.
In 2024, I was on board the Ocean Viking, learning about the critical work of the ship and its team. The Ocean Viking has been a beacon of hope in a vast, unforgiving sea. We are grateful to @SOSMedIntl and all other partners who made this mission possible.
While IFRC’s work at sea concludes, our commitment to people on the move remains steadfast. https://t.co/UmepSojwQ2
It was an honour to facilitate this incredible panel discussion today on such a critical topic. Trust in humanitarian action - not a nice to have but central to justice, equity and action.

Loading relief items from @ifrc warehouse bound for the @ARCSAfghanistan response to the recent northern earthquake. Proud to witness our joint efforts mobilizing vital support for affected families.
We are deeply grateful to their Majesties King Charles III, Patron of the British Red Cross, and Queen Camilla for their generous donation to the IFRC emergency appeal supporting communities affected by Hurricane Melissa.
Their support will help the @IFRC provide life-saving relief to people impacted across the Caribbean, including Jamaica, where Hurricane Melissa made landfall as a Category 5 storm, leaving thousands without homes, power, or access to essentials.
Across Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas, Red Cross volunteers have been distributing emergency supplies, preparing and managing shelters.
We hope this donation will encourage others to donate, too. Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica hard. Our emergency appeal is essential to raise the funds needed to help people rebuild their lives over the months and years to come.

A week of disasters in South Asia.
@ifrc has launched an appeal to support @PRC_official to reach 225 000 people affected by flooding.
In Afghanistan, @ifrc is immediately releasing funds and stocks to support @ARCSAfghanistan repond to the earthquake in Kunar Province.
The announcement of a series of ‘humanitarian pauses’, in some specific areas of Gaza, to facilitate the delivery of aid is a step in the right direction.
The @PalestineRCS continues to be on the ground doing its best to deliver services in extremely difficult conditions.
The @EG_Red_Crescent is dispatching a convoy consisting of more than 100 trucks loaded with nearly 1300 tons of flour and food parcels heading towards the Karem Abu Salem crossing.
I am hopeful that these pauses will provide a safe window for humanitarians workers to deliver much needed assistance to all in need and bring some respite to the human suffering.
However, the overall humanitarian situation remains dire, and more sustained solution must be agreed upon.
With rains hitting Sagaing, conditions are worsening for displaced communities still sleeping on the streets. Around 120,000 homes were damaged by the earthquake. Heat, cyclones & monsoon rains make relief harder.

To mourn the loss of eight Palestine Red Crescent members killed in Gaza, and stand in solidarity with colleagues in Palestine and other places where humanitarian workers have died, the flags at our IFRC Geneva headquarters are flying at half-mast. A ninth @PalestineRCS member remains missing.
Today, alongside IFRC President Kate Forbes @KateForbes_IFRC, we hosted an event to reflect, grieve, and reaffirm our commitment to protecting humanitarian workers everywhere.
These dedicated ambulance workers were responding to wounded people. They were humanitarians. They wore emblems that should have protected them; their ambulances were clearly marked.
We must protect humanity.
The IFRC is actively supporting Myanmar’s earthquake relief efforts and has launched an emergency appeal for 100 million Swiss francs to assist 100,000 people with life-saving relief and early recovery support over the next 24 months.
The IFRC is supporting the efforts of the @MyanmarRedCross which has mobilized hundreds of trained volunteers to provide immediate assistance. This includes search and rescue operations, first aid, emergency healthcare, and the distribution of essential items such as blankets, hygiene kits, food, water, and tarpaulins.
The IFRC is leveraging its global network to bolster the response, coordinating with international partners and deploying resources to ensure effective aid delivery.
