Which components of the hydrological cycle have annual memory, and where does this memory originate? A new manuscript open for discussion, with author team led by @wberghuijs
I am leading a #MSCA research project on #wildfires ignited by #lightning at @VU_EarthScience. This project will study the thunderstorms causing fires and extreme natural fires. More info here: https://t.co/0cCp7UnAot

Our @VU_EarthScience department is under threat of budget cuts and reorganizations. This has sewvere consequences for the quality #Earthsciences and #sustainability research and education @VUamsterdam and in the Netherlands. Please take a moment to watch and/or share this video!

Honoured to receive the @FWOVlaanderen Climate prize today! Thanks so much for everyone who helped by contributing to our research into more accurate and high resolution climate reconstructions @VU_EarthScience@AMGC_VUB@NIOZatSea
Dooiende permafrost: geen tikkende tijdbom, wel een dringend probleem; belangrijk werk van o.a. collega Moritz Langer! https://t.co/R8jXTGm6NX via @VUamsterdam
Our paper on Drought-Flood events is out on Environmental Research Letter! We show that one fifth of floods globally occurred SOON AFTER or DURING drought conditions, leading (for some) to interactions that altered the floods’ characteristics 1/4 https://t.co/7O828Ms6PE
4000 years ago, the Nile drastically transformed the landscape around Luxor'. A paper in @NatureGeosci suggests major changes in the Holocene fluvial landschape at Luxor , which impacted Ancient Egyptian civilization. with Willem Toonen @VU_EarthScience

We received an NWO-summit grant! 30 million euro for 10 years to study short and long term climate feedbacks. With a fantastic national dream team of climate scientists (UU, WUR, RUN, NIOZ, and VU) @VU_Science@thawsome_VU https://t.co/T3XUaRJfkS
Very happy to present our latest publication in @ScienceAdvances in which we show that during a warmer period in the #Pliocene, the summers warm up almost twice as much as the winters.

Today I presented the work I do at the @VUClimatEco research group from @VU_EarthScience on warming and cooling feedbacks of boreal fires on the coolest day of the year #NLPolarDay
#PhD in Holocene palaeoflood research @VUamsterdam
A 4-year Ph.D. position is offered at the VU Earth Science Department @VU_EarthScience. The position combines information from dendrochronological and sedimentary palaeoflood data in NW Europe to gain better insight into the spatial and temporal variability of the Holocene hydroclimate, specifically that of extreme events.
⏰Application deadline: 14 April 2024
