To me #bitcoin isn't ahead of, or behind schedule.

The cycle is a liquidity one.

It is 3.5 years peak-to-peak.

And each cycle's inflection point has determined #bitcoin's price acceleration and peak timing.

Here's a conservative estimate as to what that would cost you.🧵👇

Total network hashrate roughly equals 390 EH/s

You'd need to control ~199 EH/s of the existing network to have 51%.

This is assuming you can gain control of existing hash to conduct the attack, and not that you'd be putting new hash online which would shift the goal posts.

At 141 TH/s, you'd need 1,411,347 Antminer S19 XPs.

Assuming a modest 6¢/kWh, at a 3.05 kW draw from the XPs, each machine would cost $0.183 per hour to operate.

1,411,347 * $0.183 = $258,276 per hour to attack.

So you could burn $258k per hour to attack the network, making your billions of dollars of ASICs worth nothing.

or

you could mine (6 blocks per hour * 6.25 BTC per block * 51%) ~19.125 BTC per hour, equivalent to ~$573,750.

Not only would it basically be impossible to pull this attack off due to the mass quantity of ASICs and energy necessary, but, even if you were somehow capable of it, there's a strong financial disincentive to do so.
