Projects should stop this Top 50 or Top 100 limitation for rewards.

You can't build a community with 50 people or 100 people.

Accepting the fact that limited spots keep the competition alive and mindshare up but there should be a portion for others to appreciate the efforts at least Top 1000 ( like Cysic did: bonus for top 500 and included others beyond 500 as well )

Now, few CT will get offended with this idea because they want to keep all the rewards for themselves but remember you're nothing without your people.
