@HelenBevan Hi Helen, looking at this I wonder whether such processes ever trickle down to GP level. The way Lewisham Care Partnership managed communications with patients since 2023 when they merged 5 practices together was abysmal.
On this bus with a pushchair folded behind me by asserting my rights. Driver started with ‘another bus due shortly’ line, I reminded him of the law, then he asked family to move with “Unfortunately she has priority”. Whole bus glared at me entire journey. Sick of it.

Today is Keanu Reeve's 60th birthday.
You may not know that he was abandoned by his father at 3 years old and grew up with 3 different stepfathers. He is dyslexic. His dream of becoming a hockey player was shattered by a serious accident. His daughter died at birth. His wife died in a car accident.
He has no bodyguards, no luxury houses.
In 2010, on his birthday, he walked into a bakery and bought a brioche with a single candle, ate it in front of the bakery, and offered coffee to people who stopped to talk to him.
Keanu lives in an ordinary apartment and likes wandering around town and is often seen riding a subway or simply eating a cupcake in NYC.
THIS. ‘Dependency’ is often a fear & fantasy of the system & a clever reason to exclude & hold at arms length, making genuine therapeutic relationships near impossible. The arbitrary boundaries systems create don’t stop people needing a service. BUILD RELATIONSHIPS not discharges
@HelenBevan Yes, although on the downside being unnoticed means the skills aren't given the value they should and also there's little clout or power to wield in individual silos........
Over the last 8 years of living in South London, there has been at least one copy of Hellraiser on VHS on top of the bus stop at East Street.
The most I have ever seen up there is three. No idea how they get there, no idea who regulates it. But it has always been one of my favourite things, a little bit of solitude in the big city.
But recently, for a considerable amount of time, there has been no sign of them. Removed by the council? Vandals? Who knows?
Today, I saw a fresh copy had been placed. It made me feel like all was well in the world again.
I genuinely think that of we swapped the hyper-intellectualised, hyper-skilled approach to psychological & emotional distress with simple, sustained care & support our mental health system would be transformed. The former is a defense against the latter, and we are paying for it.
I keep hearing 'people who turn up at services are increasingly complex'.
No. THEY are not more complicated. Pain, multiple conditions and social problems may be worse, yes, but that's cos of delayed treatment, inadequate care and the consequences of austerity and benefits hell.
@Barbara28022716@johannhari101 Yes suffering is part of life. But politics matters, bcse it's politics that shapes housing, social care, jobs etc. These things have an impact on mh as much as clean water & drainage have on physical health. This is not the same as saying politics "causes" mental illness.
@Barbara28022716@johannhari101 No-one is diminishing any suffering here.Research into the things that lead to poor mh such as clinical depression, indicate that environment (both family and social environment), genetics and neurobiology all contribute together in differing amounts.
