One thing I'm enjoying about learning Go is that the exercises aren't just about syntax.
Today's for loop exercise had me implementing Newton's method to approximate √2.
Started with a fixed loop.
Refactored it to stop once the result converged.

Meta is reportedly building a prediction market app, Arena, to compete with Polymarket and Kalshi.
I find that deeply disappointing.
In one of my recent reflections, I wrote about the distinction between productive and extractive capital.
Productive businesses expand society’s ability to create value — they build infrastructure, improve productivity, create durable jobs, and push innovation forward.
Extractive businesses, by contrast, primarily capture value from existing systems without meaningfully increasing productive capacity.
Prediction markets sit in an uncomfortable gray zone.
When a company like Meta, with world-class engineering talent, global reach, and immense productive capacity chooses to allocate capital toward monetizing speculation, it raises uncomfortable questions.
Is this innovation?
Or simply a more sophisticated form of value extraction?
The timing makes this even more unsettling.
The Wall Street Journal recently investigated Polymarket over influencer campaigns promoting bets on a fake market allegedly created by the platform itself, with influencers earning large payouts while failing to clearly disclose sponsorship.
If true, that points to something bigger than aggressive marketing.
It points to an industry increasingly optimized around attention capture, speculation, and behavioral manipulation.
The troubling part isn’t that Meta wants more revenue.
It’s where that revenue is coming from.
Not all profits are equal.
Some are earned by building.
Others are earned by extracting.
That distinction matters more than most balance sheets reveal.
BREAKING: Meta is building its own prediction markets app to compete with Polymarket and Kalshi.
The app is internally called "Arena."
It would run separately from Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger.
Users would bet with points instead of real money, but Meta has not ruled out adding real money betting later.
Meta has run this playbook before.
In 2021, Mark Zuckerberg renamed the company from Facebook to Meta at the peak of metaverse hype.
Since then, its Reality Labs division has lost $83.5 billion building that vision, with Quest headset shipments still falling year over year.
Potential employers may want to know that you have solid Kubernetes skills.
Well, to show them you do, you can earn the Certified Kubernetes Administrator cert - and this course helps you study.
In it, @beaucarnes covers cluster architecture, workloads and scheduling, networking, storage, and more - with tons of demos.

@Kalshi Silicon Valley billionaires ran up a trillion-dollar tab on server farms and chat bots, and the public index fund is the designated bag holder for the bill.
@valuetainment hard to compete globally when your infrastructure relies on a billionaire's tax write-off.
enterprise buyers are realizing they can't build on a burning furnace of VC cash forever. the real pricing shock hasn't even hit the market yet.
@typesfast Value investing died the second a pre-revenue holding company crossed $2.8T because the market decided narrative is the only metric that actually matters.
SpaceX just acquired Cursor for $60B
> be Cursor
> 4 MIT students start a side project in 2022
> build the AI coding tool developers love
> hit a $10B valuation
> decide copilots aren’t enough
> move into models
> need massive compute to compete with OpenAI, Anthropic & Google
> meanwhile xAI is losing the coding race
> realizes catching up could take years
> skips the line
> buys Cursor for $60B
> Cursor gets compute
> xAI gets the coding leader
> founders become multi-billionaires
"Who will pay for SaaS in Africa?"
This question came up hundreds of times across my comments this week.
It's the right question. And most people are asking it wrong.
Let me explain.
Microsoft Build 2026 was packed with announcements that will shape the future of enterprise AI.
If you missed the event, here is the next steps page with session recordings, demos, and articles for deeper learning.

From scratch can mean a feature or a component.
Even at big tech companies like where I work, senior engineers don't start from a blank slate. By the time they get involved, enterprise architects and senior architects have already defined some of the fundamental design decisions.
A senior engineer is typically responsible for owning and delivering specific part of the solution - ofcourse accountable for its design, implementation, tradeoffs, and delivery.
"Elon's iq is probably not even that high
I only make $50k a year by choice and because I am morally superior to him
I have a Master's degree as well and he doesn't
I would estimate his IQ at ~125
Not low, but certainly not near mine which is 153
I assume"
