I welcome HMRC’s conclusion, which has cleared me of any wrongdoing.

I have been exonerated by HMRC of the accusation that I deliberately sought to avoid tax.

When purchasing a home of my own with a mortgage, I did not own any other property and had no personal financial interest in the court-instructed trust set up to manage my son’s financial award. I was advised by experts that I should pay stamp duty at the standard rate.

I set out to pay the correct amount of tax. I took reasonable care and acted in good faith, based on the expert advice I received, and HMRC has accepted this.

I have always sought to act with integrity, and I believe politicians should be held to high standards - that is why I resigned from government and cooperated fully with HMRC. 

I wanted to ensure that I paid every penny that I owed, and have done so. I am relieved that my family can now move on - and that I can get on with my job.

The documentary that the BBC refused to air - Gaza: Doctors Under Attack - won a Bafta last night.

The documentary shows the targeting, detainment and torture of medics in Gaza by Israeli authorities. The decimation of Gaza’s healthcare system including the detention of healthcare workers is central to Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Amnesty awarded Gaza: Doctors Under Attack at the Amnesty Media Awards last week. The work of everyone involved in making this documentary and fighting for it to be broadcast shows the importance of journalists willing to speak truth to power.

NHS DESTROYED THE WOMAN WHO CAUGHT ITS DOCTORS STEALING FROM IT

Sharmila Chowdhury @sharmilaxx gave 30 years of spotless service to the @NHS. Not one disciplinary mark. Not one complaint. She was the budget holder for radiology at Ealing Hospital NHS Trust, which means she could see exactly where the money was going.

What she saw was two consultant radiologists billing the NHS for shifts they were spending at a private hospital down the road. The Trust lost £250,000 of public money through those arrangements.

She reported it to her line manager. Her medical director. HR. Counter Fraud. The Department of Health. The Treasury. Number 10.

She had a paper trail so airtight that @ITV undercover surveillance later caught the same consultants still absent during paid hours, and caught Miranda Harvie and Akkib Rafique taking direct cash payments from patients for private ultrasounds inside the NHS building, money going straight into their own account.

So what did the Trust do with this documented, camera-confirmed, publicly broadcast fraud?

They sacked her. On fabricated counter-allegations from a subordinate she had herself reported for breaching patient safety. The man who filed those allegations later sent an email signed off with "0800-F***-YOU-B****." He received a Top Mentor award from the Trust that same year.

Sharmila won the Interim Relief Hearing. She won the internal appeal. The judge asked the Trust to reinstate her. The Trust said no and refused to let her return. She was blacklisted. Job offers were withdrawn the moment employers discovered who she was. She settled out of court in 2012 with two years pay, out of which she had to pay £77,500 in legal fees alone. 38 Degrees38 Degrees

In July 2013, she was diagnosed with breast and lung cancer. Multiple consultants believe this is a direct result of the sustained stress of her treatment as a whistleblower.

The consultants she reported kept their jobs.

George Osborne said he could not get involved. Andrew Lansley said he could not get involved. David Cameron said he could not get involved. Every single official body, every single minister, every single department looked at a proven, camera-documented NHS fraud case and decided it was an employment matter.

BBC PAID HIM 6X MORE. THE TRIBUNAL SAID THAT WAS ILLEGAL. THE BBC SAID IT WAS COMPLICATED.

Samira Ahmed @SamiraAhmedUK presented Newswatch on @BBC for years. Same format. Same length. Same job. Read viewer feedback on camera, wrap it up, go home.

Jeremy Vine @theJeremyVine did exactly the same thing on Points of View.

She got £440 per episode. He got £3,000.

Ahmed spent years trying to fix it quietly through internal BBC processes. The BBC said there was no problem.

She filed for tribunal. In January 2020, the tribunal ruled unanimously in her favour. The BBC could not explain the difference. They tried. They argued Vine needed "a glint in the eye" and to be "cheeky."

The tribunal said that was not a skill. It was a story the BBC told itself.

The total underpayment was close to £700,000. Sarah Montague, another BBC woman, settled separately for around £400,000.

The National Union of Journalists flagged around 70 more cases waiting resolution internally. After Ahmed won, 700 BBC women received pay rises.

The BBC's statement after losing? They regretted it had gone to tribunal.

Not that they paid a woman six times less than a man for the same work for years. Just that it became public.

LIVE: At Birmingham Crown Court today at the sentencing of racist rapist John Ashby, who in Oct 25 attacked and raped a young Sikh women in her own home in Walsall.

Our young sister was in court today and confronted her attacker with such courage and strength that it had an emotional and moving impact on all in court and the Judge!

In passing sentence of LIFE IMPRISONMENT to Ashby he sited the planning, religiously aggravated and violent nature of the attack and the invasion of her home to commit such a heinous attack!

A small sense of relief of justice for our sister, but nothing will erase the trauma of the abuse and life changing experience.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with her and her family and may Waheguru grant her all the strength and faith to move on and be an inspiration to the community.
