More than 50 sloths died at an Orlando tourist attraction that never opened to the public. Last week, Florida officials closed the criminal investigation and pressed no charges.

Sloth World was supposed to be an interactive attraction on International Drive where you could hold a sloth. To stock it, the company imported animals caught in the wild in Guyana and Peru.

The first shipment arrived at a facility with no running water and no electricity. The space heaters meant to keep them warm failed, leaving tropical animals in the Florida cold for at least one night in December 2024.

Between March and April, the number of living sloths in the company's care went from 26 to 13.

The sheriff's report describes emaciated, dehydrated animals. One frothing at the mouth. One that had been lying on the ground for two days, covered in its own feces. The curator who helped move the survivors to the Central Florida Zoo said she saw no food and no water anywhere in the building.

A veterinarian told the state the company expanded faster than it could handle disease, and was dosing sick sloths with Pedialyte.

55 died, only 13 made it out alive.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office concluded there was no crime because nothing that happened cleared the legal bar for criminal neglect in Florida.

A state representative put it about as plainly as it can be put: when a facility can be in full compliance with every applicable standard and animals still die by the dozens, the standards are the problem. Compliance is not the same as care.

Florida now requires a special permit to import sloths. Orange County commissioners are weighing a ban on using exotic wildlife for commercial entertainment.

55 wild animals were pulled out of a rainforest, shipped across an ocean, and died in a warehouse for an attraction that never opened its doors. And under the law as written, nobody did anything wrong.

I was buying some vegetables and spices when, suddenly, a massive explosion shook the area. Abu Salim Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in Gaza, was destroyed.

For a few moments, I couldn’t process what I was seeing... people were running, shopkeepers and vendors were rushing away, and women and children were screaming. Vegetables and fruits were flying through the air alongside shrapnel and pieces of the mosque.

My phone rang. It was my son Ahmed: “Where are you? Are you okay?”

An investigation by the Center for Investigative Reporting has revealed that glyphosate is being sprayed in California forests at record levels by timber companies and the U.S. Forest Service.

Glyphosate is the key ingredient in Roundup, the weed killer that has been the subject of lawsuits alleging exposure causes cancer.

The World Health Organization's cancer agency called glyphosate a health risk back in 2015, saying it was "probably carcinogenic to humans."

Google wants to build its next AI data center on top of wetlands.

Not near them.

On them.

This is Indiana, where they've already lost 85% of their wetlands.

Google's own developer admitted it in writing: avoiding the wetlands entirely "was not feasible."

Translation: it was possible. They just didn't want to redesign the buildings and spend the money to do it.

This phase alone destroys over 4 acres of protected wetland, filled in with dirt and concrete for 3 new buildings, plus a maze of wastewater pipes and electrical lines.

Combined with what Google already paved over in earlier phases, the total reaches 8.54 acres of wetland gone. Permanently.

And there are still more phases coming, in a campus planned to eventually hold 12 buildings total.

This isn't an accident. In July 2025, Trump signed an executive order specifically directing federal agencies to fast-track permits like this one under the Clean Water Act, for any AI data center project pulling more than 100 megawatts of power, which includes campuses exactly like this one.

It's the reason wetland permits that used to take years now move in months. And it's a major reason the United States now has more AI data centers than any other country on Earth; companies racing to break ground and lock in approvals while this administration keeps the door held open.

Fort Wayne officials publicly promised residents Google's data center wouldn't raise their utility rates. But statewide, Indiana utilities are already shifting hundreds of millions of dollars in AI data center infrastructure costs onto ordinary customers' bills, for other companies' projects, right now.

The company promises no impact. Then the infrastructure costs get passed on anyway.

It's the same pattern with the wetlands too: promises that the damage is minimal, manageable, offset. Meanwhile the actual land keeps disappearing.

What's left of Indiana's wetlands now covers less than 1% of the entire state.

This land once supported salamanders, spotted turtles, and great blue herons; species that depend on wetlands to survive at all.

They paved paradise, and put up a parking lot. Now they're coming for that last 1% too.

How much of our natural landscape, our clean water, our wildlife are we expected to bulldoze, just to keep feeding an AI boom that never seems to have enough?

🚨🇦🇺 BREAKING: Israel just announced on World Humanitarian Day that no one will be charged for murdering Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom and her 6 World Central Kitchen colleagues.

They were in a clearly marked aid convoy.

Their movements were coordinated with the Israeli military.

Israel still struck the vehicles one after another with drones.

Then they investigated themselves… and found “insufficient evidence.”

The New South Wales Government is going to shoot Australian wild brumby horses starting tomorrow 6am Monday 24th August through Friday 28th, in Yuraygir National Park. They will be mass shooting the animals from helicopters. These horses do not always die immediately, and dependent foals can be left without their mothers.

Over 7,000 wild horses have already been killed through aerial shooting in Kosciuszko National Park. Now aerial shooting is being used against horses in Yuraygir, all in the name of protecting the “environment”.

If the NSW Government actually cared so deeply about protecting the environment, why is it facilitating 15 proposed data centre projects worth almost $52 billion, despite the enormous electricity and water demands associated with data centres?

What about trapping and rehoming these horses? Many locals who live alongside them dispute the extent of the environmental damage being attributed to these animals.

Where is the recent, publicly available, independent and transparent evidence showing the current extent of environmental damage specifically caused by the horses in Yuraygir? And where is the evidence showing that shooting them from helicopters is necessary instead of pursuing non lethal alternatives?

Some people will argue that wild horses can impact ecosystems. This does not automatically mean aerial shooting is the only, or the right, solution. In my opinion, this is awful and inhumane.

There are better ways to manage these beautiful animals than shooting them from the sky.
