For you, NEET sucks because you have gone through it personally. For me, what sucks is seeing mafia raj and an administration allegedly working hand in glove with it, with no accountability.

But taking someone's resignation will not fix any of this. To me, it is just symbolism.

Even changing the government won't solve the underlying problem. Today you fix paper leaks, tomorrow something else comes up. You fix that, and another form of corruption takes its place.

I have no lost love for Dharmendra Pradhan. No doubt there was negligence under his watch. But my question is: what exactly will his resignation fix?

The root cause is much deeper.

There is too little fear of consequences for breaking the law. Corruption becomes attractive when people believe they can get away with it.

I have learnt from my own experiences that fixing these problems piece by piece isn't enough.

You may outrage over NEET because, as a doctor, you personally connect with what students have suffered. Tomorrow, as an ordinary citizen, you will interact with another part of the system and encounter the same underlying disease in a completely different form.

People may feel victorious if they force a minister to resign. Some new faces may even build entire political careers out of that outrage, as we saw happen after the movements of 2011-12.

But has the underlying system fundamentally changed?

For me, one of the biggest structural fixes has to begin with the justice system.

Justice needs to be delivered fast enough that people can actually see consequences happening in real time. Punishment must be certain and timely enough that someone thinks about the consequences before committing the wrongdoing.

If cases drag on for decades until the issue becomes irrelevant and society itself moves on, what deterrence does the law create?

We need to fix the speed, certainty, and integrity of justice. We need to create a genuine fear of consequences.

Otherwise, we will keep moving from one outrage to another, demanding one resignation after another, celebrating each one as a victory while the same underlying problems keep resurfacing in different forms.

That is why I call this nautanki, and I stand by my words.

Let me tell you what sucks.

My father bought a property in 1985 from a family belonging to another community. He built a bank building there and gave it to SBI on rent. The bank operated there till 2014, after which we asked them to vacate because the rent was too low.

We got busy with some other urgent property-related work and didn't pay much attention to this property for some time.

Later, when we wanted to sell it and transfer it to our mother's name, we found that someone had simply cut my father's name from the land records with a red pen.

A red pen means the jamabandi is dismissed, and the property has been sold.

But sold to whom?

There was no name. No date. No information about who cut it. No information about whose name the new record was created in.

Nothing.

Now you go to the Circle Officer and ask him to reinstate it. He rejects it.

You appeal to the DCLR. By the time your appeal comes up, the earlier officer is transferred. He is gone. No consequences for whatever he did.

The DCLR asks us for a bribe. We refuse. He rejects it again.

We move to the ADM.

For two years, we don't even get a hearing date.

Now what do you do?

You go to court.

But against whom?

Do you have evidence that the same people who sold the property were behind all this?

Do you know the name of the karamchari who took a red pen and cut your name from the records?

Can you get any action taken against the CO who rejected your case?

Or against the DCLR who asked for a bribe?

At best, after fighting for years, maybe decades, you will get your own property back in your name.

Your own property. Something that was already yours.

But what about all those years when you needed that property? When you could have sold it, used the money, or done something productive with it?

And what happens to those who did all this?

Nothing.

You know what happens instead?

The same people who created the problem will test how desperate and tired you are.

If your property is worth ₹1 crore, he will offer you ₹50 lakh.

You have already spent years running from one office to another. Most people eventually get exhausted. They take whatever they can get and move on with their lives.

And this is how the person who did the wrong thing gets rewarded.

This is how the system continues.

I have many more such stories from my own family and relatives, involving properties worth amounts where even a small part of it can raise eyebrows.

So when I say it suck, this is what I mean.

And this is why I don't believe fixing one paper leak, removing one officer, taking one resignation or changing one government will fix much.

You are fixing the leaves. The root remains exactly where it was.

Fix the system where people can do such things and live their entire lives without facing any consequences.

Until you fix that, you will solve one problem today and wake up to another one tomorrow.

Why does the government allow issues to escalate to the point where they turn into huge protests? Such protests often create opportunities for anti social elements to infiltrate, which ultimately works to the detriment of the nation.

Right from Ministers to MPs, MLAs, and councillors - why don’t they regularly connect and interact with the public?

Why is even meeting a councillor so difficult? Why do citizens have to hand over petitions to a security guard at the entrance of his place?

All these representatives are in their positions only because the people have put them there.

Connecting with people does not mean addressing massive rallies with tens of thousands in attendance.

Meaningful connections are built when public representatives meet citizens in small groups, listen to their problems, understand the ground realities, and take those issues to the appropriate authorities.

These are not extraordinary expectations. They are the basic fundamentals of a healthy democracy.
