Coming to understand that for me, words can permanently change how safe a relationship feels. I believe that there are lines that should never be crossed, even in the middle of an argument.
We don't just feel better during vacations. Our moods elevate in advance too.
Evidence: People aren't always happier after a holiday, but they do feel happier beforehand. It gives them something to look forward to.
Anticipated joy is a reliable source of happiness.
you listen to the contrarian argument as to why the artist should be allowed to perform here, then you understand why there are people still supporting APC amidst the current national realities. smh
I avoid content designed to make me angry towards women like the plague, because that stuff slowly poisons your mind. Both genders are problematic and we all have legitimate grievances against each other. But at the end of the day, being angry and bitter doesn't help anyone.
Stay alert to things you wish were not true. You will begin to deceive yourself and will ultimately suffer. Once you see a truth, train yourself to internalize it and act accordingly. Relate to the world as it is, not as you wish it to be.
The reason you shouldn't discount my opinion is that every section of Twitter thinks I'm an idiot, from the feminists who've branded me as a misogynist to the red-pillers who've called me a simp. I belong to everybody and to nobody. 😅
If I took away one lesson from the Odyssey, it’s you gotta choose your wife wisely. Here’s the range of outcomes:
• She starts a decade-long war which kills most of your friends (Helen)
• She cheats on you while you are fighting for your nation and murders you at your homecoming (Clytemnestra)
• She holds down the fort, raises your son, and ennobles your legacy (Penelope)
The outcome of the Greek heroes are strongly determined by the woman they chose to marry.
While Penelope clearly is the best wife, most people misunderstand what makes her so great. Why does Odysseus turn down goddesses, a princess who is much younger from a wealthier kingdom, and the very offer of immortality to go back to Penelope?
It’s not just because of her loyalty, but what Homer calls “ὁμοφροσύνη” -- like-mindedness. What makes her the ideal wife is that she matches Odysseus in his defining quality, his cunning. Odysseus on what makes a good marriage:
… Like-mindedness is a goodly gift. For nothing is greater or better than this, than man and wife dwell in a home in one mind, a great grief to their foes and a joy to their friends.
Yesterday morning, these children from Abor village in Enugu State gathered to learn “Place Value” in Mathematics. The turnout became so large that we now have to create a daily timetable for different groups.
These are the same children the community had been saying were not serious about their studies for years. Yet, we changed that narrative after just one encounter.
Before this holiday ends, every child in this village will have a strong foundation in Mathematics.
And here’s the most interesting part: no teacher is standing in front of the class. We only have a supervisor to maintain order while the children learn through world-class lessons delivered in the most engaging and exciting way.
Children are the same everywhere.
The difference is not intelligence.
The difference is access.
The economic value of a language is a topic you'll only find amongst people who live in survival mode and optimised for poverty avoidance.
Language is a cultural phenomenon not a poverty alleviation scheme.
There's no reason why your own language cannot exist with others.
