India is becoming data rich. How well we use our ‘data richness’ may hold the key to economic riches too. For a country as large, complex and diverse as India, data unlocks the ability to frugally measure, and thus manage, the allocation of capital, resources and benefits.
Weekend hack: Ejipura Flyover tracker 👇
Been following @Ejipuraflyover, but had no clue what’s happening where from the posts.
So built this in ~1 hour:
A map that:
• pins every photo on satellite view
• tracks all 65 piers by stage
• lets you literally watch the flyover get built over time
How:
~10% photos had GPS burnt in → used as anchors
rest = inferred via OCR + LLM from post text
193 tweets
101 photos mapped
2 years → visual timeline
Play with it: https://t.co/IQGQLUjLI1
@dineshpaii@Rainmatterin Yes, absolutely! This needs to exist. And you find something, please share - I’m looking for a similar compliance assistant for nonprofits in India. Nonprofit compliance is even more tedious unfortunately!
MoSPI has shared the National Metadata Structure (NMDS 2.0) with Ministries/Departments for implementation. The NMDS 2.0 is designed with the objective that data and information are uniformly represented, provide clarity on the data sources, collection methods and enhance discoverability of data sets. It is to bring in improved understanding of various data sets in public domain such as census, surveys, administrative and those from other sources. @GoIStats regularly interacts with the Statistical Advisors of Ministries/Departments on various issues, including the NMDS 2.0

Even today, when work gets tough i get through it visualising and playing in my head a solid tennis smash!! 🎾
While reading this story, I was reminded of the time when I stumbled into a room on Clubhouse app (!!) where onion farmers from Nashik were strategising stock release looking at wholesale domestic & import prices & stock situation. Smart folks!
@sayantanbera
Maharashtra’s struggling farmers have made headlines for committing suicide. But a group of grape growers from Nashik helped put the state on the global map. This is their story @livemint

Superb story, @sayantanbera , thank you! Having lived in Nashik, I can attest to the transformation grapes brought :)
As we say at @_sattva - impact is everybody’s business! More power to the farmers and their ecosystem 🙌

A first for me, an hour long conversation with @tweetenator, host of @OoruLabs which dives into the nitty gritties of urban issues that has a profound impact on our daily lived experiences but strangely is not top of mind for most.
Are we doomed to stay caught in the traffic jams, breathe the polluted air or are there things we can do to bring the community together and usher in the change we want to see?
Listen in to experiences of a decade from the middle and the sidelines of civic participation in Bengaluru, a city we all love to call home.
Thank you Sathya!
