@awbolympia's Spring Washington Employers Survey is out. Here's some of the highlights:

📈72% of respondents rate the overall tax burden as a top business challenge, up from 64% last quarter and up 18 points since winter 2025

📉7% rate Washington’s economy as strong or very strong, down from 10% last quarter and down 16 points since winter 2025

📈22% report their business is growing, up slightly from last quarter but down 5 points since winter 2025

📉9% plan to expand in Washington in the next year, down from 20% in winter 2025, while 38% are planning to expand in another state, up from 21%

📈46% expect a recession in the next year, up from 34% last quarter and up 29 points since winter 2025

Big win for Washington service members transitioning to state civil service jobs. 🪖

Senate Bill 5827 just made it easier for veterans to access the civil service preference points they've already earned—before they even hold their DD-214 in their hands.

Here's what changed:
✅ 90 days out? Get a letter from your commander.
✅ Use it to apply for Washington state jobs now with your veterans preference.
✅ Turn in your DD-214 within 30 days of separation—and you're set.

This bill was a direct result of a separating servicemember sharing their experience with their state senator. Your experience matters. Your ideas help shape policy that can impact your fellow veterans.

Be sure to share this with any transitioning veterans, and don't be shy about sharing ideas for change with your state representatives.

This law becomes effective June 11, 2026 and is a result of this year's legislative session.
