Concerned @ unethical marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes. Here to report breaches to @babymilkaction & lobby for full implementation of #WHOCode in N.Ireland.
True, good to see investment in data on a key womens health issue . But pls invest in data on #breastfeeding which lowers breast cancer risk by 30-40% if done for >12 mo., yet no good data since 2010! And invest in our unfunded national breastfeeding strategy to help mums do it!

Thanks Margareta Johansson for inviting me to work on this interesting study #breastfeeding

“The tool puts the power of data in the hands of policymakers, advocates, environmentalists, and (…) scientists, enabling them to evaluate the reduction in GHG emissions and water use by increased breastfeeding and reduced reliance on commercial milk formula” #GreenFeedingTool
Prevention of breastcancer is important & good data is essential to develop policies & evaluate results. On the primal preventative health strategy #breastfeeding, Australia has dropped the ball badly. No data,no funding for Breastfeeding Strategy @AlboMP@Mark_Butler_MP
@OHID it's been a while, but great to see that the Infant Feeding Survey will soon be underway!
Why does it only involve families in England? It will not include families from N.Ireland, Scotland or Wales. Previous IFS survey included all 4 countries and was undertaken in 2010.
🧵 The UK has some of the lowest rates of exclusive #breastfeeding in the world.
Our latest report finds many women would have liked to breastfeed for longer, highlighting the importance of addressing the barriers they're facing.

If your baby was born in N.Ireland, you will NOT be invited to take part in this latest Infant Feeding Survey (IFS) which is only for families in England.
What's the plan for an IFS in NI? @healthdpt @RobinSwann_MLA @publichealthie @RcmNi @babyfriendly @RCPCHtweets@BirthWiseNI
The Infant Feeding Survey will ask mothers:
➡️ how they feed their babies
➡️ where they get advice on feeding
➡️ questions on their pregnancy & lifestyle
If your baby was born in December, you may get invited to take part.

Wrong. Breastfeeding & breastmilk contributes far more than antibodies to immunity & effects don’t ‘wear off’ after weaning. It is far more complex: as this review illustrates, exclusive breastfeeding develops both innate & adaptive immune system response. https://t.co/HuNgbxDUOu
“When the economic value of breastfeeding is more visible to policymakers and societies, policymakers can make more informed decisions on resource allocation for breastfeeding support.” #MothersMilkTool
The UPF infant formula, bottle and teat, pacifier& sleep training industry can’t make $$ unless babies & mothers are separated.
Breastfeeding HAS to fail for them to profit. PLEASE @Mark_Butler_MP@healthgovau@AlboMP , legislate the WHO Code
We need to see some leadership on the issue of infant formula pricing. Supermarket points, vouchers, or promotions are not an equitable or sustainable solution to the rising prices of infant formula. Families and children are the ones who will suffer unless govt controls prices.
