Yesterday I convened an Emergency Committee on the #Ebola outbreak in the #DRC and #Uganda. The Committee agreed that the situation is a public health emergency of international concern.
@WHO assesses the risk of the epidemic as high at the national and regional levels, and low at the global level.
Such an important moment!
This new pandemic accord shows what’s possible when countries come together.
This is how we protect each other.
Collaboration is how we prepare and build a healthier future for all.
#WHA78#PandemicAccord
It's official: the #PandemicAccord is officially adopted by the World Health Assembly!
My warmest congratulations to @WHO Member States for their commitment to keeping their people and the world safer.
What a moment in global health history. Together!
We’re so pleased to kick off a new partnership with @tawuniya
Our first in the Gulf region.
Together, we’re harnessing the power of partnership to drive innovation and improve access to healthcare across the Middle East and North Africa.
On the eve of the 78th World Health Assembly, we celebrated a pioneering framework for mutual cooperation between the @WHOFoundation, @Tawuniya and @meenaHealth24. At a time when global health challenges are growing more complex, this collaboration reflects a bold, forward-looking vision that sees partnership as a catalyst for transformative change – from the Region, for the Region. Thank you, Tawuniya and Meena Health, for embracing our vision of equitable access to healthcare for all.

After over 3 years of negotiations, WHO Member States have finalized a draft #PandemicAccord to make the world safer from future pandemics.
The draft agreement will now be submitted to WHO’s Member States meeting at the #WHA78 for consideration and adoption
Proposals within the text include:
✅ Boosting global collaboration on prevention & preparedness
✅ Strengthening health systems & R&D worldwide
✅ Creating a fair system for pathogen access & benefit-sharing
✅ Building a skilled global health emergency workforce
The proposal respects national sovereignty—the draft agreement does not provide WHO any authority to direct, order, alter or prescribe national laws or policies, or mandate States to take specific actions.
