Tramjatra /CTUA are pleased to announce our new creative partner and collaborator, @Placemaking_In, together invite you all to the Environment Day Tramjatra on 5 June 2024. This year's theme, designated by the United Nations, is “Climate Action,” underscoring the urgent need to address climate change, reduce carbon emissions, and propel the transition to a sustainable, low-carbon economy. To honor this occasion, we will decorate a tram that draws attention to the environmental problems we face and the solutions related to living a sustainable lifestyle. The decorated tram will run from Gariahat Depot to Shyambazar Terminus via Esplanade Terminus on June 5 between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. In alignment with the Central Government's special environment programme, the newly elected members will plant saplings in all three depots/termini.

This is NOT development. This is ecocide. More than 103 hectares of reserved and protected forest land is being used for this project. The project also passes thru tiger habitat. But all they dangle before you is ‘9,250 cr project of convenience’. We will all bear the true cost!

Present condition:
𝗕𝗶𝗱𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗡𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘀 is left abandoned since 2023 after closure of services and removal of overhead wires. It is an Important Terminus in North Kolkata and can even support extension towards New Town & Salt Lake. Kindly Reinstall Wires and Revive it !

Please help improve the mobility in West Bengal. Trams, buses, metro ferries, and railways should be integrated, along with walkable zones. For example, please look into the encroachment at the Esplanade area at the highest level and ensure it’s rectified. Additionally, consider the feasibility of a 15-minute city in Kolkata.

Seriously ? Kolkata AQI is 345 today. But Government is doing nothing except Removing Trams and promoting Autos and Buses in the City. The Solution lies in the City Trams itself. Just Expand the Trams and revive old routes and see the change !!
