Winter Tangerine is a literary & arts magazine dedicated to the electric. We aim to disrupt the status quo and amplify the unheard. On hiatus, but we miss you!
We are proud to present KINGFACE MIXTAPE, a new SPHINXX essay series by Calen Firedancing! Follow one Black queer poet’s trip through the past, present, and future. Our afflictions are chronically absurd; our poetics must be too.

Today marks 30 years since the passing of my older brother. I visited his resting place during my trip to Saigon, Vietnam last year. Here is an essay my sister @anuonganuong wrote from @WTangerine called “Becoming A Butterfly”: https://t.co/7o3BbzT7qj🦋❤️🙏🏽
They criminalize the homeless so that they don’t have to house them. They criminalize drug addicts so that they don’t have to address substance abuse as a public health problem. They criminalize the poor so that they don’t have to address wealth inequality.
We don’t need to keep reforming slavery & all its various institutions.
We don’t need to keep updating & refining the mechanisms of white capitalism so the owner class can continue its violent commodification & exploitation of Black people globally.
The system itself must end.
