Kenya doesn't lack health policies. @StandardKenya's #The8thDay asks whether the system works for the patient. 👇
📌 Only 2% of facilities offer the complete basic outpatient package, and 47% offer maternity services (Health Facility Census)
📌 Unions cite 150 health worker strikes since devolution
📌 Out-of-pocket spending is about 24.2% of health expenditure (WHO)
Registered ≠ treated. UHC works when a patient finds care, medicines and a health worker on duty.

@Trans4mHealthKe@Trans4m_Health@MalecheAllan@RaiseYourV_oice
Universal Health Coverage (UHC) isn't measured by how many people are registered. It's measured by what happens when a patient walks into a facility.
The numbers:
✅ 33M Kenyans registered with SHA
✅ 5,024+ facilities contracted
✅ 107,800 Community Health Promoters employed
✅ KEMSA fill rate up from below 40% to 91%
⚠️ But only about 5M members are currently remitting contributions. Delayed approvals and payments, medicine shortages and health worker strikes persist.
@MalecheAllan: "UHC should be judged from the patient's experience."

What’s in the food we eat matters.
Speaking on the KNPM, Gideon Ogutu of @IILAinfo highlighted how excess consumption of nutrients of concern such as sugar, salt, total fats and saturated fats can increase the risk of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
The KNPM provides a way to assess and differentiate foods and non-alcoholic beverages based on their levels of these nutrients.
How does it help consumers?
1️⃣ Identify the food category
2️⃣ Check the nutrient levels on the package
3️⃣ Compare them against the KNPM
4️⃣ Make an informed choice
Better information can support healthier food choices.

Kenya's health sector has hit a milestone: 32.2M people now registered under SHA. @KELINKenya welcomes the stronger legal foundation four new health laws have created for UHC — but as we've said, the real test is whether these reforms translate into quality, affordable, accessible care for every Kenyan.

📢 New Journal Article Alert
.@KELIN, as part of @DigHealthRights, is excited to announce the publication of “Navigating Technology-Facilitated Abuse: A Participatory Action Research Study with Young Adults Living with HIV and Key Populations in Kenya” in PLOS Global Public Health.
The study examined how young adults living with HIV and key populations experience technology-facilitated abuse (TFA), including cyberbullying, hacking, blackmail, impersonation, malicious reporting of accounts, and non-consensual sharing of images or private information.
The article proposes an expanded intersectional definition of TFA that recognises HIV status, sexual orientation, and gender identity and expression as axes of vulnerability.
